About WSP and the Role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking a Consultant – Fire & Life Safety to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves providing expert consultations on fire protection and life safety systems for large-scale projects across the region. The consultant will be responsible for developing fire and life safety strategies and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Core Responsibilities

The Consultant will provide technical input and guidance across various project phases, from design to commissioning. This includes engaging with clients and stakeholders to ensure adherence to national and international fire and life safety regulations and codes.

Technical Oversight and Compliance

  • Provide technical input and consultation on fire and life safety systems, including fire detection and alarm, water-based suppression, clean agent extinguishing, smoke control, and passive fire protection systems for complex projects.
  • Prepare and support design submissions, calculations, and Fire & Life Safety Strategy reports in coordination with senior engineers, maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Verify that designs and installations comply with applicable Saudi and international fire and life safety codes and standards, including the Saudi Building Code (SBC 201 and SBC 801), UAE, IBC, NFPA, and BS.
  • Assist with audits, site inspections, compliance reviews, fire risk assessments, and hazard analyses, contributing to mitigation strategies for high-profile projects.
  • Support integrated testing and commissioning of fire and life safety systems to ensure compliance with regulatory, client, and design requirements.

Project Collaboration and Professional Development

  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, clients, and relevant government authorities to support smooth project delivery and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Mentor and guide junior and graduate consultants, promoting knowledge sharing, innovation, and best practices in fire safety engineering.
  • Participate in training programs, technical workshops, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Contribute to bid submissions and proposals, attend client meetings, and support WSP's representation at industry and client events.
  • Support the profile of WSP’s Fire & Life Safety team through involvement in conferences, technical publications, and professional forums.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates for this position should possess 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in fire and life safety consulting. A strong understanding of the Saudi Building Code (SBC 201 and SBC 801) and international codes and standards (UAE, IBC, NFPA, BS, and others) is required for this role.
