About the Role

Bupa Arabia is seeking a dedicated CSSD Technician to join their team in Riyadh. This full-time role is critical for ensuring the sterilization of reusable medical instruments and the safe handling of biohazard materials within a restricted and carefully controlled environment. The CSSD Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality by adhering to established policies and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process reusable medical instruments and handle biohazard materials daily in a restricted work environment.
  • Identify items for re-sterilization and re-use, strictly following manufacturer recommendations and tracking methods.
  • Check and ensure sterilizers are working correctly, verifying correct time and temperature settings for sterilization.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment within the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD).
  • Utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and standard safety precautions when working with biohazard materials, steam, and gas.
  • Perform all CSSD procedures in accordance with established policies and guidelines across all areas.
  • Conduct inspections of all trays and instruments received in the decontamination area.
  • Apply theoretical and evidence-based knowledge to maintain proper sterilization processes, including flushing to remove visible dirt and microorganisms.
  • Perform proper disinfection or decontamination using chemical dry or wet heat methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.

Quality Control and Compliance

  • Ensure validation of the sterilization process through quality control (physical monitoring, chemical indicator, and biological indicator) in pressurized high-temperature steam or plasma methods, meeting technical standards for performance and safety.
  • Ensure the sterility of products until use by maintaining package integrity.
  • Assemble instrumentation sets and procedural trays item per set.
  • Select appropriate packaging materials for processing, ensuring proper size for each tray or individual instrument.
  • Ensure safe and free movement of instruments and equipment during the packaging process.
  • Collect and transport soiled instruments and materials in suitable containers and trolleys to the reprocessing location in CSSD.
  • Prioritize cleaning instruments as the most essential step in the reprocessing cycle, ensuring all debris and dirt are removed.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed monitoring reports.
  • Adhere to organization policies, procedures, and protocols, including hospital policies and standards of practice.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety, and assist in the implementation of evidence-based practices.

Occupational Health and Safety

  • Adhere to strict infection control protocols to prevent the spread of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Identify and address potential safety hazards in the healthcare environment.
  • Identify and report defective or broken equipment, safety hazards, and environmental hazards.
  • Report any incidents or injuries promptly.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Maintain the highest levels of professional competence through ongoing personal professional development.
  • Utilize multiple modalities such as attending conferences, symposiums, workshops, and in-services.
  • Read role-related journals and textbooks and network with peers to stay abreast of advancements in practice and technology.
  • Seek opportunities for professional growth and skill development through workshops, seminars, and certifications.
  • Demonstrate and maintain competence in all mandatory competencies.
  • Maintain current licensure and certifications required for the position.
  • Act as a preceptor for new employees, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role should possess 5 to 10 years of experience in a relevant CSSD or sterilization environment. A strong understanding of sterilization processes, infection control protocols, and medical instrument handling is essential. The ability to adhere strictly to organizational policies, procedures, and standards of practice is required, along with a commitment to participating in quality improvement initiatives.
