Data Protection and Privacy Senior Specialist

About the Role

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority is seeking a Data Protection and Privacy Senior Specialist to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role requires 2-5 years of experience and involves operating with minimal supervision to manage and enhance data privacy and protection initiatives within the organization.

Role Purpose

The Senior Specialist will work within established guidelines and procedures to prepare complex, specialized, or ad-hoc reports in data protection. This role contributes to achieving milestones and operational targets by undertaking activities such as conducting assessments, identifying needs and challenges, supporting the development of plans to improve sensitive data protection, preparing awareness programs, and overseeing the implementation of data privacy and protection initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Review National Data Management Office (NDMO) approved standards and policies to update ZATCA’s data guides and ensure continuous adherence.
• Conduct assessments to identify needs and challenges related to personal and private data management, highlighting areas for improvement.
• Assist in developing data privacy and protection policies, standards, and procedures aligned with ZATCA’s strategy, best practices, and international standards.
• Suggest improvement plans and initiatives to safeguard and enhance the protection of ZATCA’s sensitive data and information assets.
• Devise data privacy and protection KPIs aligned with strategic objectives for proper follow-up.
• Communicate data policies, standards, strategy, and plans to stakeholders to ensure understanding and engagement.
• Conduct risk assessments against data privacy to identify issues and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop control measures and metrics to monitor employee performance and confidentiality, ensuring sensitive data protection.
• Prepare data privacy and protection awareness programs and initiatives to communicate NDMO and ZATCA requirements effectively.
• Manage the implementation of data privacy and protection plans, identifying and resolving data issues related to evaluation, integration, and automation.
• Identify and assess improvement areas, developing initiatives and projects to minimize data issues and ensure continuous adherence to data obligations.
• Follow up on the proper implementation of approved improvement action plans to enhance data privacy and protection.
• Consolidate data privacy issues and collaborate with internal stakeholders, particularly IT functions, to implement remedial actions.
• Develop reports for stakeholders highlighting ZATCA’s compliance levels with data standards and policies.

Organizational and Operational Support

• Adhere to all relevant policies, processes, and standard operating procedures.
• Assist in resolving escalated problems and provide support to junior team members.
• Escalate complex problems to ensure proper resolution.
• Perform other duties as requested.

People Management

• Train junior staff on job activities to facilitate knowledge transfer.
• Provide clear direction, prioritize tasks, assign responsibility, and monitor the workflow of junior staff.
• Support junior staff or direct reports in executing duties according to established policies and processes.

Qualifications and Experience

• 2-5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Ability to operate with minimal supervision and work within established guidelines.
