About the Role

Tandem Interim is seeking a Data & Reporting Analytics Engineer for a contract position in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability and repeatability of critical recurring business reports, while establishing foundational data ownership and quality controls. The approach emphasizes lean processes, utilizing controlled extracts and repeatable transformation logic rather than developing a new enterprise data platform.

Key Deliverables

• A prioritized register of critical data elements, a business glossary, an ownership matrix, and source-of-truth documentation for the agreed scope.
• Documented data quality rules covering completeness, validity, allowed values, duplicates, thresholds, severity, ownership, and remediation.
• An inventory of recurring reports, narrowed to 2–3 selected based on business value, manual effort, and feasibility.
• Controlled XLSX/CSV or read-only source extracts with repeatable Power Query/Python transformation logic, including record counts, control totals, error logging, archiving, and versioning.
• 2–3 production-quality Power BI (or GCP/alternative) reports/dashboards with governed KPI definitions, semantic models, DAX, access controls, and scheduled or owner-triggered refresh.
• Runbooks, data dictionaries, and test evidence sufficient for an internal team to maintain the solutions.

Responsibilities

• Identify reports, decisions, and processes most exposed to unreliable or manually-assembled data, and profile underlying extracts.
• Resolve conflicting KPI definitions with business owners prior to development, and document agreed definitions, owners, exceptions, and limitations.
• Build resilient transformations capable of handling inconsistent file extracts, including changing headers, column order, formats, and incomplete data.
• Reconcile outputs against source reports and control totals, highlighting unresolved discrepancies rather than obscuring uncertainty.
• Develop and release Power BI (or alternative) semantic models, measures, drill paths, and visuals with appropriate refresh mechanisms and role-based access.
• Collaborate with operations, finance, investments, client teams, and vendors to establish sustainable extract, review, and remediation routines.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates should possess 5-10 years of relevant experience. This role is not focused on cloud data engineering or pure dashboard design; core responsibilities include file-based transformation, governance, reconciliation, and handover. The scope specifically excludes building data lakes/warehouses/lakehouses, real-time pipelines, enterprise MDM/catalogue tooling, broad source-system remediation, or unrestricted self-service.

Relevant Tools and Technologies

Proficiency with Power BI, Power Query, GCP BigQuery, and Looker is relevant. Experience with Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Azure ML, Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, and Kafka is not a screening requirement but may be considered advantageous.
