Design Lead (Electrical DC) Solar

About the Role

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a Design Lead (Electrical DC) Solar to join their team in Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position requires 5-10 years of experience and involves leading engineering activities for Solar PV Power Plants, from pre-bid engineering to commissioning and warranty support.

Role Overview

The Design Lead (Electrical - DC) will be responsible for reviewing and executing engineering activities related to Solar PV Power Plants. This includes generation estimates, overall plant layouts, DC SLDs, solar module selection, inverter sizing, SMB, earthing layouts, and cable sizing calculations. The role also involves facilitating BIM 3D model development, coordinating with other departments (Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, MEP), and providing support to site teams. The Design Lead will manage a team of Design Engineers and Draughts Persons, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality engineering work within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Review documents prepared by the engineering office in India and explain them to local contractors for site execution.
• Coordinate with OEM manufacturer engineers and civil contractors for installation and construction.
• Liaise with local consultants for design adaptation works.
• Ensure timely delivery of engineering drawings and documents, aligning with project schedules.
• Review drawings by Design Engineers & Draughts Persons, check design and sizing calculations of electrical equipment, and obtain client approvals.
• Review vendor deliverables pertaining to engineering.
• Manage multiple tasks and deliver on time.
• Estimate and plan man-hour requirements.
• Review Bill of Quantities (BOQ), submit to the contracts team, and provide technical clarifications.
• Coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure inter-departmental checks.
• Provide support and clarifications to the Site Execution team.
• Check pre-award evaluation of vendors against client technical specifications and forward validation documents to Supply Chain Management.
• Inspect equipment from finalized vendors after submission of validation documents.
• Clarify design and client requirements to the Site Execution Team.
• Collect project details (plot details, feeder arrangements) from clients and Project Engineering Managers.
• Coordinate with the Operations team and communicate design specifications for approval.
• Collect project details (General Arrangement Drawings) from vendors.
• Check deliverables such as Cable Routing Layout, Cable Tray Layout, Earthing Layout, and Lightning Protection Layout.
• Provide support to Electrical AC, Civil/Structural teams for reviewing vendor drawings.
• Submit man-hour requirements for undertaking and reviewing project designs and drawings.

Technical Expertise and Qualifications

• Overall knowledge of equipment layouts and necessary calculations.
• Detailed knowledge of Solar PV Power Plants, including generation estimates, overall plant layouts, DC SLDs, solar module selection, inverter sizing, SMB, earthing layouts, and cable sizing calculations.
• Understanding of National and International Codes and Standards.
• Ability to understand and interpret contractual technical requirements and support Project Teams.
• Overall understanding of inter-disciplinary design aspects (Civil & Structural, Mechanical, and Instrumentation) of electrical equipment.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, requiring coordination with various internal departments, external contractors, OEMs, and consultants. The role involves leading a team of design professionals and providing support across the full project lifecycle.
