Design Manager

About the Role

Skilled Careers is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join an international construction business specializing in mission-critical and data center projects. This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and involves taking a leading role in the delivery of major data center developments. The role requires 5-10 years of experience.

Role Context

The Design Manager will assume end-to-end responsibility for design management across the data center project lifecycle. This includes involvement from early design and pre-construction through detailed design, construction, and handover. Projects range in scale up to 100MW, operating within a rapidly growing construction sector that demands seamless integration of design, engineering, and construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Leading the design management process from concept/pre-construction through to construction and handover.
• Managing multidisciplinary design teams across architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and specialist data center systems.
• Coordinating designers, consultants, specialist subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure an integrated design solution.
• Reviewing and challenging design proposals to ensure constructability, compliance, programme, and commercial requirements are achieved.
• Managing design deliverables, design programmes, technical submissions, RFIs, and design changes.
• Working closely with construction, commercial, procurement, and project management teams throughout delivery.
• Driving design coordination and resolving technical interfaces between disciplines and packages.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Strong main contracting / construction background with significant design management experience.
• Proven experience delivering data center projects through multiple stages of the lifecycle.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and complex technical interfaces.
• A strong understanding of the relationship between design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
• The ability to operate confidently with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal construction teams.

Work Environment

This role is with an international contractor expanding its operations in Saudi Arabia, a significant market for data center development. The business is open to candidates relocating from Europe, Australia, Asia, or other international markets, provided they possess the required data center and contracting experience.
