Director Design Management (Healthcare) at Qiddiya

Qiddiya is seeking a Director of Design Management for its Healthcare & Education Assets, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves managing design across the healthcare portfolio throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial briefing to final as-built documentation. The Director will provide authoritative oversight of Lead Design Consultants and conduct rigorous technical reviews to ensure design outputs align with approved development briefs, operator requirements, and organizational objectives.

Role Overview and Objectives

The primary objective of this role is to ensure all designs comply with relevant regulatory standards and guidelines, incorporate robust Safety in Design principles, deliver demonstrable value for money, and support high-quality, buildable, and operationally effective project outcomes. The Director will be responsible for the strategic direction and execution of design management within the healthcare sector, ensuring alignment with Qiddiya's vision and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct design consultant teams to ensure design evolution aligns with project requirements and approved programs, adhering to contractual obligations.
  • Develop and manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure milestone dates are met and project delivery remains on schedule.
  • Ensure designs delivered by Lead Design Consultants are fully buildable and safe for construction, assessing contractor-initiated changes for viability and compliance.
  • Develop design consultant scope of works and contribute to contractor scope of works where design responsibilities apply, defining project and technical requirements across all disciplines.
  • Manage design within budget by identifying and evaluating value engineering opportunities while maintaining performance criteria, specifications, design intent, buildability, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead and manage the design approval process, securing necessary endorsements from stakeholders and overseeing the integration of approved changes.
  • Provide proactive leadership in identifying, assessing, and managing design-related risks, implementing robust mitigation measures across compliance, coordination, program, quality, approvals, stakeholder engagement, and buildability.
  • Lead, coordinate, and monitor all Safety in Design activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring design outputs meet required safety, operational, and quality standards.
  • Conduct technical reviews of design documents, ensuring full coordination across disciplines and alignment with project briefs and healthcare-specific performance specifications.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure clear communication, incorporation of requirements, timely direction, and securing of necessary approvals.
  • Ensure all activities comply with Qiddiya policies, processes, systems, and reporting requirements, maintaining high standards of organizational compliance.
  • Uphold robust governance frameworks, ensuring adherence to compliance, audit, and reporting obligations, and providing clear, accurate, and timely project reporting to executive stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Building, Construction, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying.
  • Registered Engineer/Architect (optional).
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional working experience.
