About the Role

Marriott International is seeking a Director of Finance to join its team in Riyadh. This full-time position functions as the property’s strategic financial business leader, responsible for championing, developing, and implementing property-wide strategies. The role focuses on delivering products and services that meet or exceed brand and employee expectations, providing financial expertise for brand service strategy implementation, and maximizing return on investment.

Strategic Financial Planning and Decision Making

The Director of Finance will lead strategic financial planning and decision-making processes. This includes developing methods to enhance profit, analyzing financial information, forecasting sales against expenses, and creating annual budget plans. The role involves identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring a robust accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets and improve profitability.

  • Develop means to improve profit, including estimating cost and benefit and exploring new business opportunities.
  • Analyze information, forecast sales against expenses, and create annual budget plans.
  • Compile information, analyze, and monitor actual sales against projected sales.
  • Analyze differences between actual budget wages and forecasted wages for efficient budget planning.
  • Identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts by breaking down information or data.
  • Develop, execute, and implement new business plans.
  • Create the annual operating budget for the property.
  • Provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
  • Implement appropriate controls to manage business risks and ensure a strong control environment.
  • Analyze financial data and market trends.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan aligned with company and brand strategy.
  • Provide ongoing analytical support by monitoring operating department's actual and projected sales.
  • Produce accurate forecasts to enable operational adjustments to business changes.

Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

This role requires strong leadership to guide finance teams and effectively engage with key stakeholders. The Director will utilize interpersonal and communication skills to influence decision-making, ensure accountability, and manage relationships with owners, corporate teams, and guests. This includes overseeing audit processes and conducting performance appraisals.

  • Advise the General Manager and executive committee on operating and financial issues.
  • Communicate financial concepts clearly to drive desired behaviors.
  • Manage communication with owners effectively and demonstrate understanding of cash flow and owner priorities.
  • Manage property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand standards and owner requirements.
  • Facilitate critique meetings to review information with the management team.

Financial Goal Management and Compliance

The Director of Finance is responsible for developing and maintaining financial goals, ensuring accuracy in profit and loss documentation, and monitoring tax compliance. This includes timely submission of reports and adherence to management contracts, reporting requirements, and operating procedures.

  • Ensure Profits and Losses are documented accurately.
  • Monitor all applicable taxes, ensuring they are current, collected, and/or accrued.
  • Submit reports in a timely manner, meeting delivery deadlines.
  • Develop and support the achievement of performance, budget, and team goals.
  • Improve profit growth in operating departments.
  • Review audit issues to ensure accuracy.
  • Monitor the purchasing process as applicable.
  • Generate and provide accurate and timely results in reports and presentations.
  • Reconcile the balance sheet to ensure account balances are supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure the P&L is accurate, with costs properly matched to revenue and recorded in correct accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with management contract and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with standard and local operating procedures.

Human Resources Activities

The role also encompasses managing and conducting human resource activities within the finance department. This involves ensuring team members are adequately trained, policies are administered fairly, and development plans are created to foster individual growth.

  • Ensure team members are cross-trained to support successful daily operations.
  • Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
  • Ensure new hires participate in the department’s orientation program and receive appropriate training.
  • Create appropriate development plans for team members based on their strengths, needs, and aspirations.
