Job Description
About the Role
Mace is seeking a Director Stations for a full-time role based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This position is part of one of Saudi Arabia's largest programs, which includes major mixed-use developments, sports facilities, entertainment, arts, and associated infrastructure. The role is expected to commence in January, subject to approval, and requires over 10 years of experience.
Role Overview
As the Director Stations, you will provide architectural, engineering, and technical leadership for the design and delivery of a network of stations. These stations are for a fully automated, Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4) driverless rail transit system. Operating client-side within a developer-led environment, you will be accountable for station technical integrity, passenger experience, and complex physical integration. This involves leading stations from initial concept through detailed design, systems coordination, and construction readiness, managing international design consultants, and ensuring compliance with technical governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the functional design of all stations, ensuring optimal platform screen door (PSD) integration, vertical transportation capacity, emergency egress compliance, and fluid passenger circulation for high-capacity driverless environments.
- Lead the coordination between station architecture, structural engineering, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, including specialized tunnel ventilation, smoke extraction, and environmental control systems.
- Ensure station facilities seamlessly embed critical transit sub-systems (communications, SCADA, security, signaling rooms) while maintaining design aesthetics and operational flexibility.
- Direct, evaluate, and hold accountable Tier 1 international architectural firms, engineering consultants, and Project Management Officers (PMOs), driving design reviews to maintain quality, schedule, and budgetary boundaries.
- Establish and execute technical assurance gateways, safety-by-design protocols, and configuration control management, ensuring station designs comply with global safety, RAMS, and local civil defense standards.
- Champion value engineering workshops to optimize spatial footprints, constructability, and lifecycle maintenance costs without compromising safety or passenger experience.
- Serve as the primary technical interface for internal and external development teams, coordinating station physical footprints, structural loads, and utility connections where stations integrate with or sit adjacent to mixed-use developments.
- Protect the rail asset's operational and structural rights-of-way, manage complex boundary matrices, and align station delivery schedules with surrounding master-planned phases in a developer-led environment.
- Proactively resolve design conflicts between developer real estate ambitions and rail transit requirements to achieve integrated urban connectivity.
Qualifications and Experience
- Over 10 years of relevant experience in architectural, engineering, and technical leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering complex rail transit systems, particularly automated, driverless systems.
- Experience managing international design consultants and enforcing technical governance.
- Ability to negotiate structural, spatial, and MEP interfaces with real estate developers.
