About the Role
Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie Company, is seeking a Medical Science Liaison Contractor to join their team in Riyadh. This contract position focuses on current and upcoming Medical Aesthetics portfolios and associated indications. The role involves driving Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement, leading scientific exchange with Healthcare Professionals (HCPs), and advising cross-functional teams on future medical activities. It also contributes to brand strategy, tactical planning, and medical-marketing messaging and approval procedures.
Role Overview
This is a non-promotional role primarily focused on providing Healthcare Professionals with fair and balanced scientific information. The Medical Science Liaison Contractor will develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers to provide comprehensive medical and scientific support for Allergan initiatives in assigned therapeutic areas. The position requires 2-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute the Medical Affairs plan for Saudi Arabia and the MEA region.
- Provide scientific education and training initiatives across the Allergan Aesthetics portfolio.
- Conduct field visits with key physicians and stakeholders.
- Organize and manage advisory board meetings.
- Facilitate clinical trials.
- Serve as the medical resource for both external and internal stakeholders.
- Facilitate information, education, and research activities for physicians and ancillary healthcare professionals regarding current and future therapies developed or commercialized by Allergan.
- Collaborate with other Allergan personnel to ensure healthcare professionals' information, education, and research needs are met, and to identify and meet the scientific and technical training needs of commercial organizations.
- Contribute to business planning.
- Lead internal and external training and education initiatives.
- Identify, develop, and engage thought leaders.
- Support clinical studies feasibility, pharmacovigilance, and compliance.
- Act as an expert in the therapy area.
Qualifications and Experience
- Educational Qualifications: Strong preference for a medical degree (MD) or an advanced degree of science (PhD). Candidates with a Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (Pharmacists) may be considered with relevant prior work experience.
- Relevant Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Specialized therapeutic area expertise (Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, or Medical Aesthetics) is preferred. Experience in Medical Affairs activities, such as advisory board management, publication, and other scientific exchange activities, or a full understanding of these, is required. A good understanding of the local market and multinational culture is essential. Proven experience in establishing strong influential relationships with KOLs and demonstrated KOL development is also required. For internal candidates, at least 2 years at AbbVie with a successful track record is preferred.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Personal: Strong leadership skills with the ability to persuade at all levels within the organization (including the Commercial team) and with external customers (KOLs, HCPs). Excellent presentation and interpersonal communication skills, coupled with a positive attitude towards learning.
- Professional: Ability to think strategically and develop and execute plans at a country level. In-depth knowledge and clinical understanding of medical aesthetics. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent presentation abilities. Capable of engaging HCPs and communicating effectively with them, as well as with medical institutions and/or associations. Commitment to complying with all business ethics and applicable regulations to maintain personal credibility and integrity, as well as Allergan's.
- Technical: Proficient computer skills, including MS Office.
Work Type and Location
This is a contract position based in Riyadh. The salary for this role will be disclosed during the hiring process.
