Project Manager v Substation (Electrical)

About the Role

Alfanar Projects is seeking an experienced Project Manager – 380kV Substation to oversee the complete execution of high-voltage substation projects. This full-time position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and involves managing projects in alignment with SEC requirements, contractual obligations, safety standards, quality requirements, budget, and schedule.

Role Overview

The Project Manager will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of 380kV GIS/AIS Substation projects. This role requires hands-on experience across all project phases, including engineering coordination, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and project handover, specifically within an EPC contractor environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the complete execution of 380kV Substation projects from mobilization through testing, commissioning, and handover.
• Lead and coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Monitor the installation and commissioning of major equipment, including GIS, power transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, SCADA, cables, and auxiliary systems.
• Ensure project execution complies with SEC standards, approved drawings, specifications, contractual requirements, and applicable international standards.
• Prepare and monitor project schedules, milestones, manpower requirements, and resource plans.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, engineering teams, and internal stakeholders.
• Monitor project progress, cost, quality, safety, and overall performance.
• Identify project risks, delays, technical issues, and interface challenges, ensuring timely corrective actions.
• Manage subcontractors to ensure their work meets project requirements, schedule, quality, and HSE standards.
• Review project reports, progress updates, technical submissions, and project documentation.
• Conduct regular project meetings and provide clear progress updates to senior management and clients.
• Support commercial and contractual matters, including variations, claims, change orders, and project correspondence.
• Ensure successful testing, energization, commissioning, final documentation, and project handover.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in project management.
• Strong experience managing 380kV GIS/AIS Substation projects for an EPC contractor.
• Previous experience with SEC 380kV projects is preferred.
• Experience delivering complete EPC Substation projects in Saudi Arabia or the GCC.
• Experience managing projects from engineering and procurement through construction, testing, commissioning, energization, and final handover.
