GulfNet Solutions Company Limited (GNS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Ali Zaid Al Quraishi & Brothers (AZAQ) founded in 1997, provides consulting, engineering, and technology solutions across the GCC. Headquartered in Dammam, GNS specializes in industrial automation, information security, cloud computing, mobility, and digital transformation solutions. We are seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join our team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, focusing on industrial automation and control systems projects within the water and utility sectors.

Role Overview

The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, implementation, and commissioning of industrial automation and control systems. This full-time role involves developing automation architectures, preparing engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with client requirements and standards, and supporting project execution from concept through handover. The successful candidate will collaborate with clients, project teams, vendors, and site personnel to deliver robust automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute medium to large-scale automation projects from engineering through commissioning phases.
  • Conduct site surveys, technical assessments, and system evaluations.
  • Support installation, testing, and commissioning activities on-site.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, technicians, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical support and engineering solutions for automation and control systems, including diagnosing issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Program and configure PLCs, RTUs, HMI, and SCADA applications as required.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Integrated Factory Acceptance Tests (IFAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning activities.
  • Lead technical discussions with clients during engineering reviews and acceptance testing.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet customer expectations, quality requirements, and schedule commitments.
  • Prepare and maintain all project engineering and site documentation, including various reports (site survey, testing, commissioning, FAT, SAT).
  • Monitor project progress and provide technical updates to project management.

Engineering and Design Tasks

  • Design and develop control and automation systems utilizing PLCs, SCADA, RTUs, and instrumentation systems.
  • Develop control system architecture, network architecture, and automation system layouts.
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as P&IDs, I/O Lists, Instrument Lists, Instrument Loop Diagrams (ILD), Control Narratives, Functional Design Specifications (FDS), FAT & SAT Documents, and Scope of Work Documents.
  • Develop engineering design packages in accordance with project and client requirements.
  • Review technical requirements, specifications, and standards to ensure compliance with end-user requirements.
  • Specify and evaluate field instrumentation, control valves, analyzers, PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, and communication networks.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Automation and Control Systems Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in PLCs, SCADA, RTUs, Instrumentation Systems, Industrial Communication Networks, and Control System Architecture Design.
  • Proven experience in developing technical specifications, P&IDs, engineering drawings, system layouts, and scope of work documents.
  • Experience in water, wastewater, utility, or infrastructure projects, with exposure to NWC projects considered an advantage.

Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation platforms (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, RSLogix, ControlLogix, CompactLogix).
  • Experience with Siemens platforms (TIA Portal, S7, WinCC).
  • Familiarity with Schneider Electric (EcoStruxure / Unity Pro).
  • Knowledge of Wonderware / AVEVA SCADA platforms.
  • Understanding of ANSI, NEMA, IEC, UL, and NEC standards.
  • Knowledge of FAT, SAT, Testing & Commissioning procedures.
