About the Spring Market Assistant Manager Role

Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC) is seeking a Spring Market Assistant Manager to support the Store Director in overseeing total store operations. This full-time position focuses on departmental performance, partner development, customer satisfaction, compliance, and achieving financial objectives. The role ensures operational excellence across all store areas, including front end, inventory management, merchandising, loss prevention, and food safety, while providing leadership and coaching to partners to maintain a safe, clean, and customer-friendly shopping environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute management duties including interviewing, hiring, training, and developing partners; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining partners; scheduling; and resolving complaints and problems.
  • Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring customer complaints are addressed and resolved.
  • Open and close the store as assigned, ensuring adherence to safety, security, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure accurate pricing, planogram compliance, and proper execution of promotional displays.
  • Manage front-end operations, including staffing, training, cash handling, and compliance with tender procedures (*, WIC, EBT, AML, lottery, Western Union).
  • Monitor inventory levels using item management processes and ensure timely ordering, receiving, and stock rotation.
  • Review profit and loss reports, sales, shrink, and labor metrics, identifying trends and communicating concerns to the Store Director.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and quality standards across all applicable departments.
  • Oversee the execution of loss prevention strategies and shrink control initiatives.
  • Conduct regular store walks and inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
  • Ensure proper handling of deposits, change orders, register tills, and daily office audits, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Provide training, coaching, and accountability for all partners to ensure high performance and alignment with company standards.
  • Support the achievement of store financial goals, including sales, EBITDA, gross margin, and operating expense targets.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 18 years of age required.
  • Associates Degree in a related field and two or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education.
  • Must obtain Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) certification through the Company LEARN/LMS program within 2 weeks of starting in the role.
  • Must obtain Tobacco/Alcohol certification (TABC/LACT/AATC/ABLE) through the Company LEARN/LMS program within 2 weeks of starting in the role, where applicable.
  • Must obtain Manager Food Safety certification through the Company LEARN/LMS program within 2 weeks of starting in the role.
  • Must obtain Anti-Money Laundering (AML) certification through the Company LEARN/LMS program within 2 weeks of starting in the role.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of retail grocery store operations.
  • Basic understanding of Company checkout policies and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge and compliance of state laws regarding the sale of alcohol, tobacco, and lottery, as applicable.
  • Basic knowledge of anti-money laundering and other government regulations relating to monetary transactions.
  • Basic knowledge of cash registers and on-site fuel station procedures, if applicable.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with customers and partners.
  • Ability to remain professional and courteous with customers at all times.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to evaluate partner performance and make corrections tactfully.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods, and processes.
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office functions.
  • Ability to safely work with sharp objects and operate manual or electric pallet jacks.
  • Ability to work variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attentiveness to potential hazards and ability to remedy or report them promptly.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This role is generally performed in a retail store environment. Occasional exposure to outside temperatures and weather, extreme cold or heat (non-weather), and wet, slippery, or damp conditions may occur. Exposure to cleaning agents is also possible. The noise level is typically quiet to moderate. Physical demands include continuous use of vision for close and distance tasks, standing or walking, and talking and hearing. Frequent use of hands for reaching, touching, handling, and fine finger movements is required. Bending, kneeling, squatting, pushing, pulling, maneuvering, and lifting objects up to 40 lbs are frequent, with occasional lifting up to 75 lbs. Consistent attendance at work is required.
