About Parsons Corporation
Parsons Corporation is seeking a Structural Steel Inspector to join its team in Riyadh. This full-time position is critical for ensuring the quality and compliance of structural steel works on major projects, requiring 5-10 years of specialized experience.
Role Overview
The Structural Steel Inspector will be responsible for the comprehensive inspection and monitoring of all structural steel fabrication, erection, installation, welding, bolting, and associated activities. This role ensures strict adherence to approved drawings, project specifications, applicable codes and standards, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and client requirements. The Inspector will collaborate closely with the Quality team, Structural Engineers, Construction teams, contractors, fabrication facilities, third-party inspectors, and consultants to maintain required quality, safety, dimensional, and technical standards from fabrication through final installation and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect structural steel fabrication and erection activities in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, and method statements.
- Review and verify approved shop drawings, fabrication drawings, material specifications, and erection drawings.
- Conduct inspections at fabrication yards and project sites as required.
- Verify structural steel materials against approved material submittals and specifications, including Material Test Certificates.
- Inspect steel fabrication activities including cutting, drilling, forming, fit-up, assembly, and preparation.
- Inspect welding activities and verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and applicable requirements, ensuring welder qualifications.
- Monitor pre-welding preparations, joint fit-up, alignment, preheating, welding parameters, and post-weld requirements.
- Coordinate and witness Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) including UT, MT, PT, RT, and visual inspection, reviewing reports for acceptance criteria.
- Inspect bolted connections, including bolt type, grade, size, installation, tightening, and torque/tension requirements.
- Conduct dimensional inspections of fabricated and erected steel structures, verifying alignment, level, plumbness, tolerances, and connection geometry.
- Inspect surface preparation, blasting, cleaning, and coating application, verifying paint/coating systems, DFT requirements, and environmental conditions.
- Inspect fireproofing/fire protection systems applied to structural steel where applicable.
- Verify anchor bolts, base plates, embedded items, and steel-to-concrete interfaces.
- Monitor erection activities, ensuring temporary stability and adherence to approved erection procedures.
- Coordinate with Structural Engineers regarding technical issues, deviations, and field modifications.
- Raise and monitor Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), Site Inspection Requests (SIRs), and Quality Observations, verifying implementation and closure of corrective actions.
- Prepare inspection reports, checklists, photographs, and maintain accurate quality and material traceability documentation.
- Witness and document required hold points, witness points, and inspection activities in accordance with approved ITPs.
- Review contractor quality documentation and ensure required records are complete and traceable.
- Participate in fabrication inspections, pre-shipment inspections, site inspections, and final acceptance inspections.
- Verify structural steel works against applicable AISC, AWS, ASTM, ASME, BS, EN, ISO, and project-specific requirements.
- Support quality audits and provide objective evidence of inspection and compliance.
- Monitor punch-list items and verify satisfactory completion before final acceptance.
- Support preparation of as-built records, inspection dossiers, welding documentation, NDT records, coating reports, and final handover documentation.
- Coordinate with commissioning and handover teams where structural steel works interface with mechanical, electrical, architectural, or specialist systems.
- Identify potential quality issues at an early stage and provide recommendations to prevent rework.
- Promote quality awareness and compliance among contractors and fabrication teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in structural steel inspection, fabrication, erection, or construction quality control.
- Proven experience on major airport, infrastructure, industrial, commercial, or large-scale construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding, bolting, erection, coating, and inspection requirements.
- Experience working with structural steel fabricators, contractors, consultants, and third-party inspection agencies.
- Good understanding of drawings, specifications, ITPs, welding documentation, and inspection procedures.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is highly preferred.
- CSWIP Welding Inspector certification is an advantage.
- NDT qualifications such as UT, MT, PT, or RT are advantageous.
- NACE / AMPP Coating Inspector certification is an advantage.
- ISO 9001 Internal Auditor / Quality certification is preferred.
- Relevant professional engineering certification is an advantage.
