Technical Director Building Services Leader

About the Role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking a Technical Director Building Services Leader to head the Building Services team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time, senior, client-facing position for a professional with a mechanical or electrical engineering background in building services. The role requires providing technical leadership, managing a multidisciplinary MEP team, and engaging directly in major projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a senior technical authority for Building Services, with expertise in mechanical or electrical engineering and a comprehensive understanding of the MEP design process.
• Provide technical direction on major projects, lead design reviews, and resolve complex technical and multidisciplinary interfaces.
• Ensure designs meet client briefs, codes, authority requirements, sustainability objectives, and WSP quality standards.
• Lead, inspire, and develop the Riyadh Building Services team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
• Manage team performance, workload, and development, including supporting Saudi national talent and early-career professionals.
• Lead selected major Building Services or multidisciplinary design projects from mobilisation through delivery and close-out.
• Take accountability for project scope, programme, resources, technical quality, and client communication.
• Build trusted relationships with developers, asset owners, government entities, architects, and project managers in KSA.
• Represent WSP as a senior Building Services leader and adviser, providing responsive and technically credible advice.
• Identify and develop opportunities, lead selected prospects, and contribute to market and client account strategies.
• Take ownership of the commercial performance of assigned projects and contribute to the financial performance of the Building Services team.
• Monitor project financials, progress, and resource performance, taking corrective action as needed.
• Identify and manage technical, contractual, commercial, programme, resource, and relationship risks.
• Ensure changes in scope are recognised, communicated, and managed through appropriate commercial controls.
• Apply WSP project management, quality assurance, health and safety, ethics, and governance requirements consistently.

Qualifications and Experience

• Over 10 years of experience in Building Services, with a background in either mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to provide credible technical leadership.
• Experience in growing and managing high-performing multidisciplinary MEP teams.
• Proven track record in building trusted client relationships.
• Experience in leading pursuits and proposals.
• Ability to oversee project and commercial performance.

Work Environment

This role is based in Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and involves leading the Building Services team within WSP in the Middle East. The position requires connecting local teams with WSP’s regional and global expertise and contributing to the growth of the Property & Buildings business in Saudi Arabia.
