About the Role

ADES - Advanced Energy Systems is seeking a Day Tool Pusher to join our team in Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves supervising and controlling all drilling operations activities during the day shift. The primary objective is to ensure the successful completion of the well and drilling activities, working closely with the OIM while prioritizing the safety of personnel, environmental protection, and equipment integrity to maximize operational efficiency.

Operational Leadership and Drilling Management

  • Ensure the safety of personnel, equipment, and the efficiency of operations on the drill floor and associated drilling areas.
  • Plan and schedule all drilling and associated activities, directing personnel to achieve optimum job performance according to client requirements.
  • Ensure any deviation from the client well plan is approved by the OIM and documented in writing by the Client Representative.
  • Consult with the OIM/Night Toolpusher and Client’s Representative regarding drilling program progress, keeping the Driller informed of objectives and plan changes.
  • Relieve the Driller at the console as operational requirements demand.
  • Pre-plan to ensure all necessary equipment is ready for the next phase of the drilling or workover program.
  • Assist and supervise the drilling crew at the worksite, ensuring sufficient circulating time and well stability during trips, BHA operations, and hole problems.
  • Operate the drilling unit with strict adherence to company Drilling & Well Control manuals, reviewing and approving all drilling-related work permits.

Well Control and Emergency Preparedness

  • Ensure well control requirements are in place and assist in supervising well killing operations during any well control situation.
  • Plan and monitor comprehensive well control parameters to proactively identify signs of well control issues for early detection and swift response.
  • Maintain and regularly test well control equipment in accordance with Company and Client requirements to ensure readiness and effectiveness.
  • Perform all well control calculations, including mud weight increase, initial and final circulating pressures, and number of strokes.
  • Serve as part of the installation’s Emergency Response Team as detailed in the Emergency Plan and Company Procedures.
  • Ensure all personnel are instructed in emergency procedures and that well control and general safety drills are held and recorded.

Equipment, Materials, and Client Relations

  • Assist the OIM/Night Toolpusher in ensuring the installation has sufficient stock of parts and materials for drilling and associated operations.
  • Ensure planned maintenance and repair of drilling equipment, including draw works, mud pumps, top drive, rotary table, and BOP, are completed and documented.
  • Carry out duties to prepare the rig for towing, ensuring the cantilever, rig floor, and drilling equipment are correctly secured prior to a rig move.
  • Promote and maintain an effective working relationship with other departments, third-party personnel, and Client representatives.
  • Respond to client requests and needs concerning materials, equipment, and personnel after obtaining adequate management approval.

Team Leadership and Documentation

  • Provide clear instructions to the team regarding their duties, responsibilities, and necessary safety precautions.
  • Mentor, develop, and train the team to ensure safe and effective operations, identifying opportunities for skill and career advancement.
  • Ensure the team receives required training through on-the-job, classroom training, and participation in safety drills and exercises.
  • Support, promote, and actively participate in ADES’s Competency Assurance Program for the team.
  • Evaluate team performance with constant and fair feedback, identify areas for improvement, and drive the ADVANCE process for performance management.
  • Maintain proper logs and records, promptly submitting required reports as per company protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports, including daily drilling reports, equipment status reports, and incident reports.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Minimum High School or Vocational/Technical Qualification.
  • Experience: Minimum twelve (12) years of working experience in drilling and workover operations with reputable drilling contractors, with a career history including time served as an Assistant Driller and Driller.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in the current position.
  • Must have working experience on offshore rigs.
  • Certifications: Valid Well Control (Well Sharp / IADC) Certificate, as per ADES Training Matrix.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to regularly climb (stairs, ladders), bend, twist, and stand. Capable of working outdoors under all extreme weather conditions (noise, humidity, cold, heat) for up to 12 hours per day during shifts.
