About the Role

ADES - Advanced Energy Systems is seeking a Day Tool Pusher to join our team in Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves overseeing and managing all drilling operations during the day shift, ensuring the successful completion of drilling activities while prioritizing personnel safety, environmental protection, and equipment integrity. The role focuses on maximizing drilling operation efficiency in close collaboration with the Offshore Installation Manager (OIM).

Drilling Operations and Well Control

  • Ensure the safety of personnel, equipment, and operational efficiency on the drill floor and other drilling operation associated areas.
  • Plan and schedule all drilling and associated activities, directing personnel towards achieving optimum job performance according to client requirements.
  • Consult with the OIM/Night Toolpusher and Client’s Representative regarding the progress of the drilling program, keeping the Driller informed of objectives and communicating any changes.
  • Relieve the Driller at the Driller’s console as operational requirements demand.
  • Ensure by pre-planning that all necessary equipment is ready for the next phase of the drilling/workover program.
  • Assist and supervise the drilling crew at the worksite, ensuring sufficient circulating time and well stability during trips, BHA work, and hole problems.
  • Operate the drilling unit with strict adherence to company Drilling & Well Control manuals, reviewing and approving all drilling-related work permits.
  • Ensure well control requirements are in place and assist in supervising well killing operations in any well control situation.
  • Plan and monitor comprehensive well control parameters to proactively identify any signs of well control issues for early detection and swift response.
  • Maintain and regularly test well control equipment in accordance with company and client requirements, ensuring its readiness and effectiveness.
  • Perform all well control calculations, including mud weight increase, initial and final circulating pressures, and number of strokes.

Equipment Management and Emergency Response

  • Assist the OIM/Night Toolpusher in ensuring the installation has sufficient stock of parts and materials to perform drilling and associated operations.
  • Ensure planned maintenance and repair of drilling equipment, including draw works, mud pumps, top drive, rotary table, and BOP, are completed and documented.
  • Carry out related duties to prepare the rig for towing, ensuring the cantilever, rig floor, and drilling equipment are correctly secured by the drilling crew prior to the rig move.
  • Serve as part of the installation’s Emergency Response Team as detailed in the Emergency Plan and Company Procedures.
  • Ensure that all personnel are instructed in the procedures to be adopted in the case of an emergency.
  • Ensure that well control and general safety drills are held and recorded in accordance with company requirements.

Client Relations and Reporting

  • Promote and maintain an effective working relationship with other departments, third-party personnel, and Client representatives.
  • Respond to client requests and needs concerning materials, equipment, and personnel after obtaining adequate management approval.
  • Maintain proper logs and records, promptly submitting required reports as per company protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports, including daily drilling reports, equipment status reports, and incident reports, to document drilling activities and operational performance.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Provide clear instructions to the team regarding their duties, responsibilities, and any necessary safety precautions prior to commencing work.
  • Mentor, develop, and train the team to ensure safe and effective operations.
  • Identify opportunities for skill and career advancement, working to support the professional growth of the team.
  • Ensure the team receives the necessary required training to perform their duties safely and effectively through on-the-job training, classroom training, and participation in safety drills and exercises.
  • Support, promote, and actively participate in ADES’s Competency Assurance Program for the team.
  • Evaluate the performance of the team on a constant and fair feedback basis, identify areas for improvement, and drive the ADVANCE process to formalize a performance management culture.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in drilling operations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in supervising drilling activities, ensuring safety, and optimizing operational efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of well control procedures, equipment maintenance, and emergency response protocols.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a drilling team, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
