About the Director of Sales & Marketing Role
Sheraton is seeking a Director of Sales & Marketing to lead the property’s sales department. This full-time position requires 2-5 years of experience and involves managing both reactive and proactive sales efforts to achieve property sales objectives and revenue goals. The role focuses on building long-term, value-based customer relationships and implementing the brand’s service strategy.
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Sales & Marketing will manage the development of strategic account plans for market demand generators and oversee the property's sales initiatives. This includes determining and developing marketing communication activities in conjunction with Regional Marketing Communications, and providing customer intelligence on market and economic trends. The role involves reviewing competitive analyses to maintain awareness of the hotel’s market position, researching competitor sales strategies to identify growth opportunities, and contributing to sales strategy meetings. Innovative marketing ideas and deployment strategies to grow market share will be developed and implemented. The position also involves evaluating and supporting participation in various sales channels and serving as the primary sales contact for customers, the General Manager, property leadership, Group Sales, and Area Sales leaders. The role requires acting as the hotel authority on sales processes and contracts, and serving as the property sales liaison with relevant departments and leaders.
Sales and Marketing Execution
This role includes participating in sales calls to acquire new business and close deals, identifying public relations opportunities to enhance marketing communications, and supporting crisis communications. Execution and support of Marriott’s Customer Service Standards and Brand Standards are essential. The Director will oversee the operational aspects of booked business, including proposal generation and contract writing, and participate in daily service basics of the brand. Ensuring a seamless turnover from sales to operations and back, while consistently delivering high service levels, is a key duty. The role involves monitoring the effective resolution of guest issues arising from the sales process and maintaining successful performance by increasing revenues, controlling expenses, and providing a return on investment.
Strategic Development and Leadership
The Director will develop and manage internal key stakeholder relationships, build strong community and public relations through participation in tradeshows and client events, and execute exemplary customer service to drive satisfaction and loyalty. Understanding the hotel’s target customer and service expectations, and offering business solutions that meet and exceed needs, is crucial. The role involves developing sales goals and strategies aligned with the brand business strategy, and executing the sales strategy to meet individual booking goals. Coaching leaders of revenue-generating departments in developing effective revenue strategies and setting aggressive goals is also a responsibility. The Director will ensure the sales team leverages Marriott International demand engines and works with Human Resources to attract, develop, and retain talent, creating effective structures, processes, and performance management systems. Setting goals, aligning performance, addressing issues, and holding staff accountable are part of the leadership duties. Forecasting talent needs, managing talent acquisition, and maintaining a list of competitor sales personnel for recruitment are also included.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should possess a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related major, coupled with 4 years of experience in sales and marketing or a related professional area. Alternatively, a 4-year bachelor's degree in a related field with 2 years of relevant experience is acceptable. Demonstrated skills in supervising a team, lodging sales experience, and hotel industry work experience showing progressive career growth and exceptional performance are required.
Additional Duties
The Director of Sales & Marketing will perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs, including working with Human Resources, Engineering, and Loss Prevention to monitor compliance with regulations and union requirements, and championing leadership development and workforce planning priorities.
