About the Human Resources Manager Role

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is seeking a Human Resources Manager to join their team in Medina, located in the Central Area District. This full-time position requires 2-5 years of experience in human resources. The role involves supporting the property's Human Resources department in daily activities, focusing on delivering HR services that meet employee needs and contribute to business success, while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

The Human Resources Manager will oversee and manage various HR functions. Key duties include:

  • Managing the recruitment and hiring process, including interviewing, sourcing candidates, and partnering with recruitment sources and vendors.
  • Administering employee benefits, including responding to unemployment claims and preparing related reports.
  • Supporting employee development through orientation programs, cross-training initiatives, and ongoing training.
  • Maintaining positive employee relations by facilitating communication channels, reviewing disciplinary actions, and addressing employee concerns.
  • Ensuring legal and compliance practices are followed, including maintaining employee files, managing medical records, facilitating drug testing, and communicating property rules and safety policies.
  • Managing Workers' Compensation claims and overseeing selection and offer processes to ensure adherence to proper procedures.

Employee Relations and Development

This role is instrumental in fostering a positive work environment. Responsibilities include assisting in maintaining effective employee communication, reviewing progressive discipline documentation for accuracy and consistency, and utilizing an open-door policy to address employee issues promptly. The manager will also ensure employees receive appropriate new hire training and are cross-trained to support daily operations. Collaboration with the management team is key to ensuring departmental orientation processes are in place and that leadership participates in training programs.

Legal Compliance and Safety

Ensuring adherence to all legal and compliance standards is a critical aspect of this position. This includes maintaining accurate and secure employee files, complying with the Privacy Act, and managing confidential medical records. The role also involves facilitating drug testing processes where applicable, communicating property rules through the employee handbook, and regularly disseminating safety and security policies. Periodic claims reviews with the Regional Claims office and managing Workers' Compensation claims are also key functions to ensure appropriate employee care and cost management.

Recruitment and Candidate Management

The Human Resources Manager will play a significant role in attracting and selecting talent. This involves establishing and maintaining contact with external recruitment sources, attending job fairs, and networking with local organizations to identify candidates for current and future openings. The manager will oversee the candidate identification and selection process, provide subject matter expertise to property managers on selection procedures, and partner with vendors to ensure effective advertisement strategies are employed to attract a diverse candidate pool. Quality control on candidate identification and selection is also a key responsibility.
