Senior Specialist Gastroenterologist

About the Role

Dr Sulaiman AlHabib Medical Centers is seeking a Senior Specialist Gastroenterologist for a permanent position. This role involves providing high-standard clinical practice and expertise in the assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients within the Gastroenterology department, while assisting the consultant. The Senior Specialist Gastroenterologist will also contribute to continuous quality improvement activities to achieve the organization's goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide medical and surgical care for admitted patients within the department or under their consultant.
• Manage assigned clinics as per the approved Rota by the Head of the Department and Medical Director.
• Conduct initial assessments, request investigations, analyze test results, diagnose, treat, and reassess patients according to privileges and upon consulting their consultant.
• Prescribe or administer therapy, medication, and specialized medical care under the supervision of a Consultant.
• Monitor patients' condition and progress during each shift and inform their consultant.
• Perform daily independent rounds for all admitted patients in the department and under their consultant in any other department.
• Accompany consultants during rounds and assist in assigned surgical procedures.
• Document complete medical records and update progress notes in a timely manner as per HMG Policy.
• Authenticate medical records at initial entries and progress notes using personal login credentials.
• Perform diagnostic or therapeutic procedures for which they are specifically privileged based on qualification, training, and experience.
• Document Discharge Summaries and Medical Reports electronically.
• Attend all emergency codes of the hospital as per policy.
• Implement all approved policies, procedures, rules, regulations, protocols, and clinical pathways.
• Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, therapists, and residents in patient care.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement activities within the department.
• Serve on Departmental / Hospital Committees when requested.
• Ensure adherence to Islamic Values and Medical Ethics.
• Maintain high standards of professional care in accordance with International / National Healthcare Standards.
• Obtain informed consent for all diagnostic procedures, operations, tests, or procedures.
• Provide reports and information as required by the Consultant/Head of Department.
• Educate patients and their families on healthy lifestyles and contribute to community health awareness.
• Provide orientation, bedside training, and supervision to undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
• Participate in educational activities, training, and development programs.
• Lead person-centered care initiatives and enrich patient experience with compassion, respect, and dignity.
• Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within their knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Graduate of a Medical School recognized by the Medical Council of the country of origin.
• Completion of appropriate internship and residency programs.
• Post-graduation qualifications in the specialty.
• At least three (3) years of practice in their specialty after obtaining the higher degree in a Tertiary Care Hospital.
• Subspecialty degree or structured subspecialty training is preferred.
• Membership, Fellowship, and/or Board Certification in the respective specialty.
• Relevant licensure from the country of origin, acceptable to the Saudi Commission for Health Specialty and Ministry of Health.

Experience Required

Candidates should possess 3-5 years of relevant experience in Gastroenterology.
