About the Instrument Engineer Role at S-Chem

S-Chem is seeking a skilled Instrument Engineer to join our team in Al Jubail, Eastern region. This full-time position is critical for designing and implementing manufacturing technology aimed at automating production processes and equipment. The role focuses on achieving process safety and meeting business objectives, requiring 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Role Purpose and Scope

The Instrument Engineer holds primary responsibility for all design changes and reliability initiatives pertaining to instrumentation, electrical systems (specifically those under 480V), and their associated controls. This position provides essential technical leadership and support to both Instrument and Electrical maintenance groups, ensuring equipment availability is maintained at the highest feasible operating level through continuous research and communication of new technologies and maintenance practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply appropriate reliability tools (*, Worst Actor Program, FMEA, RBI, RBM, RCM, Reliability Roadmap) to drive improvements, optimize costs, and enhance asset availability.
  • Develop Critical Equipment lists and Critical Spares Inventory recommendations, including monitoring and optimizing the stores system for future site-wide needs.
  • Participate in incident investigations to discover root causes of problems and implement corrective actions to prevent similar situations.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of analytical techniques for detecting and diagnosing problems in instrumentation equipment.
  • Define and maintain accurate criticality for all instrumentation equipment.
  • Develop and maintain equipment history and performance data to reveal underperforming assets, communicate findings, and implement timely resolutions.
  • Support the life cycle management effort for instrumentation.
  • Prepare technical reports and studies as directed by the manager.
  • Perform any other relevant task as directed by the Lead Engineer Instrument.

Project Management and Operational Compliance

  • Participate in and provide advice for developing plans for major shutdowns, construction, or alteration projects.
  • Manage discipline engineering and design for capital and expense projects, adhering to sound life cycle management principles, site engineering standards, and industry best practices.
  • Provide project management support for small capital and expense projects where instrumentation constitutes the majority of the scope.
  • Support the execution of plant Management of Change (MOC), including updated document review and project closeout.
  • Execute Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities (*, FAT, SAT, Loop sells).
  • Strictly follow established environmental, health, safety, and quality policies and procedures to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, high-quality product/service delivery, and a responsible environmental attitude.
  • Undertake accountabilities in the operational excellence process as set out in the schedule of responsibilities.
  • Contribute to the processes of continuous improvement for the area assigned.

Experience Requirements

Candidates must possess 5 to 10 years of professional experience in instrument engineering, with a proven track record in automating manufacturing production processes and managing related reliability initiatives. A strong understanding of process safety and business objectives within an industrial setting is required.
