About the HYCO Operator Role

Air Products is seeking a HYCO Operator to join their team in Al Jubail, Eastern region. This full-time position involves the day-to-day operation of a HYCO facility, ensuring production requirements are met safely and efficiently. The role reports to the HYCO Lead / Shift Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate HYCO Steam Methane Reformer and Refinery off-gas PSA units according to Work Instruction Procedures.
  • Manage the pipeline network to safely and efficiently supply Hydrogen, steam, Nitrogen, and CO2 to customers.
  • Prepare and implement safety work permits and LOTO procedures.
  • Execute preventative maintenance activities and assist maintenance and engineering teams with corrective maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with process safety, Management of Change (MOC), and Operating Plant Hazard Review (OPHR) requirements.
  • Maintain accurate document control and monitor quality assurance initiatives.
  • Provide operational guidance to ensure the safety, reliability, and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, and controls.
  • Manage plant production efficiently to meet safety, reliability, and profitability targets.
  • Report shift production progress and plant status, offering operational solutions for any shortfalls.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow Site Work Instruction Manuals and other operating procedures to meet customer satisfaction regarding safety, reliability, product quality, and supply flexibility.
  • Execute shift turnover protocols for safe and efficient handover.
  • Support and maintain close working relationships with engineering and maintenance personnel.
  • Participate in investigations and Root Cause Analysis to implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Maintain customer communications to satisfy demand rates while maximizing facility efficiency and profitability.
  • Communicate plant activities with other shifts to ensure continuity.
  • Execute other assigned duties efficiently.

Safety and Compliance

  • Maintain a safe work environment and demonstrate leadership in safe work processes to prevent injuries.
  • Ensure proper documentation for safety-related activities.
  • Utilize the APQ Basic Safety Practice program, including Safety Work Permits and LOTO.
  • Ensure Air Products and APQ standards, and global best practices for EH&S, productivity, reliability, and quality are met.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Chemical Process Operations. An Associate Technical Degree (2-year certificate) will be considered based on experience and competence. A minimum of 5 years of plant operations experience is required, with demonstrated knowledge of Hydrogen/SMR/acid gas removal units production plants being a plus. Familiarity with local environmental and health and safety requirements is necessary.
