This full-time role for a Lead Structural Engineer is based in Al Khobar, Eastern Province, requiring 5-10 years of experience.

Structural Engineering Discipline Leadership

The Lead Structural Engineer will guide the structural engineering team across assigned projects, ensuring consistent standards and technical practices. Key responsibilities include:

• Allocating structural engineering activities based on project priorities, workload, and competence.
• Providing technical direction, mentoring, and support to team members.
• Monitoring design productivity, deliverable progress, and project milestones.
• Supporting recruitment, technical interviews, and professional development.
• Establishing and maintaining high standards of structural engineering quality, safety, and documentation.
• Leading technical discussions and resolving complex structural engineering issues.

Structural Design Management and Development

This role involves leading and overseeing the development of structural engineering designs for various structures and ensuring appropriate analysis and technical review. This includes:

• Concept and feasibility studies, structural system selection, and optimization.
• Preliminary, schematic, design development, and detailed structural design.
• Structural analysis, modelling, foundation design, and superstructure design for various materials (concrete, steel, composite, masonry).
• Design for seismic and wind loads, durability, robustness, and fire resistance.
• Ensuring all structural documentation is coordinated, technically accurate, and suitable for the project stage.
• Leading preparation and review of Structural Design Basis Reports, calculations, drawings, and tender documentation.

Regulatory Compliance and Coordination

The Lead Structural Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, and for effective coordination with authorities and other disciplines:

• Ensuring structural designs comply with Saudi Building Code, Civil Defense, Municipality, and Royal Commission requirements.
• Applying international standards (IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, ASTM, BS EN, Eurocodes, NFPA, ISO) where consistent with project and Saudi requirements.
• Leading technical coordination with Saudi authorities, preparing submissions, and responding to technical comments.
• Coordinating structural engineering requirements with architecture, civil, geotechnical, MEP, fire & life safety, and other specialist consultants.
• Ensuring proper integration of structural systems with architectural layouts, MEP requirements, and other building services.

BIM, Technical Assurance, and Client Interface

This role involves leading BIM implementation, ensuring technical quality, and managing client and stakeholder interactions:

• Leading BIM requirements within structural engineering, coordinating with BIM Managers, and participating in clash-detection reviews.
• Performing technical reviews of structural designs and calculations, ensuring appropriate checking and approval processes.
• Identifying and mitigating structural design risks, and maintaining compliance with Assystem's Quality Management System.
• Representing the structural engineering discipline in client meetings, presenting design concepts, and responding to technical comments.

Tender, Construction Support, and Innovation

The Lead Structural Engineer will provide support during tender and construction phases, and promote value engineering and sustainability:

• Responding to bidder technical queries, reviewing contractor proposals, shop drawings, and RFIs.
• Supporting technical resolution of site structural issues, participating in design-change reviews, and conducting site inspections.
• Identifying opportunities to optimize structural design solutions, considering CAPEX, OPEX, functionality, and constructability.
• Promoting efficient use of materials, supporting low-carbon and sustainability objectives, and encouraging innovative structural engineering approaches.
