About the Role: Python AI Engineer

EPAM Systems, a global provider of digital platform engineering and software development services, is seeking a Python AI Engineer. This full-time, on-site position is based in Al Khobar or Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, within the Eastern Region. The role focuses on developing production-ready AI/ML solutions and transforming AI prototypes into scalable backend applications. The successful candidate will drive impactful solutions for enterprise clients through robust Python backend development, seamless system integration, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop Python backend services specifically for AI/ML applications.
• Build and integrate APIs, ML models, LLM components, RAG pipelines, databases, and external systems.
• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, architects, and stakeholders to transition prototypes into production environments.
• Ensure high standards for code quality, performance, reliability, testing, and maintainability.
• Support the deployment, monitoring, debugging, and continuous improvement of AI/ML services.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Strong experience in Python development.
• Proficiency in backend development using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Practical experience with REST APIs, databases, Docker, Git, and fundamental CI/CD practices.
• A solid understanding of ML/AI concepts, including model inference and data processing.
• Demonstrated experience integrating ML models or LLM components into backend systems.
• Ability to work independently, even with partially defined requirements.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools like Claude, Cursor, and Git Copilot.
• An academic degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• A valid SCE (Saudi Council of Engineers) certificate with an IT-related discipline is mandatory for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, and vector databases.
• Familiarity with frameworks such as LangChain and LlamaIndex.
• Knowledge of OpenAI/Azure OpenAI services.
• Understanding of cloud platforms, Kubernetes/OpenShift, message queues, or MLOps tools.

Work Environment and Benefits

This is a full-time, on-site role. Standard working hours at EPAM in Saudi Arabia are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, including a one-hour unpaid lunch break. Working hours may be adjusted based on client requirements, with flexibility accommodated where possible.
