About the Opportunity

King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) | جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن, located in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, is seeking qualified candidates for full-time faculty positions within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. These roles are open across all professorial ranks: Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in both teaching and research.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at KFUPM offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program serving approximately 1,200 students, alongside a robust graduate program with over 100 * and ** students. Faculty members are actively engaged in research, securing sponsored projects from various funding agencies and local industries. These industries include oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, water desalination, and manufacturing, providing a dynamic environment for academic and applied research.

Key Responsibilities

The faculty member will be expected to contribute significantly to the department through teaching, research, and student mentorship. Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses at both * and ** levels.
  • Advising and mentoring students.
  • Supervising * and ** theses and dissertations.
  • Developing funded research programs aligned with their field of specialization.

A strong commitment to quality education and active student interaction is essential for this role.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for these faculty positions:

  • An earned ** degree from a reputable institution.
  • A strong record of published research.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising the research of graduate students.
  • Relevant teaching experience at the university level.
  • Teaching and/or industrial experience in the respective areas of specialization.

Candidates with established research and teaching credentials in energy generation/recovery/storage or innovative water desalination technologies are particularly encouraged to apply, as they may be considered for a senior faculty position or a chair professorship.

Specializations Sought

Applicants must hold a ** degree in one of the following Mechanical Engineering disciplines:

  • Nuclear Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Nuclear Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with a focus on Nuclear Engineering. Candidates must possess the ability or experience to teach courses related to Engineering Nuclear Reactors, Reactor Physics, Nuclear Power Plant Materials, and Nuclear Power Plant Operations.
