About the Role

Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is seeking a Staff Surgeon, Otolaryngology (ENT) to join our team in Dhahran. This full-time position involves providing high-standard, cost-effective Otolaryngology services to eligible medical recipients under the supervision of an Attending Physician. The successful candidate will operate within approved credentials and privileges established by the Hospital Credentials & Privileging Committee.

Core Responsibilities

  • Attend service clinical and educational rounds, including morning reports and sign-out rounds.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team rounds and contribute to service/department Quality and Safety activities, including reviews, audits, and presentations.
  • Report patients' adverse events to the appropriate department/service office.
  • Prepare and provide patient reports as required within hospital policy, ensuring legible and timely entries into patient records and maintaining complete case records.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental policies and bylaws, including patient record confidentiality.
  • Participate in medical records audits and contribute to service and department business meetings.

Clinical Duties and Patient Care

The Staff Surgeon will perform a comprehensive range of clinical duties, encompassing inpatient, outpatient, and operating room procedures:

  • Assess and admit patients from the Emergency Room, outpatient clinics, and transfers, as directed by the Attending Physician.
  • Conduct necessary investigations, admission work-ups, and day-to-day patient assessment, planning, and management under supervision.
  • Perform daily rounds on admitted patients and assigned consults during workdays, and attend to patients requiring re-evaluation.
  • Provide weekend coverage for admitted patients as per service arrangement and respond to emergency calls promptly.
  • Participate in trauma care, Code Blue, or rapid response care according to established credentials and privileges.
  • Answer inpatient consultations within the required timeframe and conduct rounds on related service intensive care unit patients when on-call.
  • Plan and prepare patients for discharge, dictating discharge summaries.
  • Provide in-house 24-hour call as required per the monthly on-call schedule.
  • Attend assigned outpatient medical/surgical and procedural clinics within approved ambulatory credentials and privileges.
  • Evaluate patients in the emergency room and perform minor emergency surgical procedures when necessary.
  • Assist in the operating room when assigned, perform operative procedures and perioperative anesthetic management within approved privileges.
  • Maintain punctuality and professionalism in the operating room, inform caregivers of procedure outcomes, and dictate timely operative reports.

Collaboration and Professional Development

This role involves daily interaction with hospitalized patients and their families, nurses, other physicians, and medical staff. Close collaboration is maintained with Emergency Medical Service, Clinical Medicine Services, Surgical & Diagnostic Services, Radiology Services, and other requesting services. The Staff Surgeon is also expected to:

  • Participate actively when assigned to a committee.
  • Contribute to teaching and educational activities for junior staff, medical students, and interns.
  • Continuously update knowledge and skills required for safe performance of duties.
  • Maintain adequate continuous medical education credits as required by the hospital and licensing authority.

Qualifications and Education

  • Graduation from an approved medical school.
  • Completion of one year of internship in a recognized training program.
  • Completed a formal postgraduate training program in a specific specialty with proven certification.
  • SCFHS registration as a registrar.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the specialty, following the completion of internship.
  • Prior experience, preferably in a university-affiliated teaching hospital, is highly regarded.
