About the Route Salesman Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Sell the full range of PepsiCo products to an assigned customer list, with sales performance measured against pre-agreed targets.
  • Minimize product stales to remain below the target set by the supervisor.
  • Ensure customers receive approved service levels by adhering to call frequency and daily route plans.
  • Conduct daily and weekly vehicle checks as per operating procedures, maintaining the sales vehicle in a clean and roadworthy condition and reporting any defects promptly.
  • Agree on daily order requirements for the next selling period with the supervisor.
  • Maintain individual customer stock levels to agreed requirements to minimize out-of-stock situations.
  • Implement agreed in-store merchandising standards, coordinating with company merchandisers where applicable.
  • Advise the supervisor of any relevant competitor activity in the assigned sales area during daily debriefings.
  • Perform daily reconciliation of all cheques, cash, and credit sales, ensuring zero stock and cash shortages.
  • Maintain a neat and presentable appearance at all times.
  • Adhere to a high standard of driving and obey all driving regulations.
  • Provide supervisors with the latest market information to identify and develop new sales opportunities.
  • Attend training courses designed to improve professionalism and customer service levels.
  • Complete a daily debriefing with the supervisor to review performance and discuss market insights.

Performance Expectations

Success in this role is measured by demonstrated ability to achieve daily/weekly sales targets compared to planned sales, consistent achievement of daily positive calls versus plan, and adherence to the planned daily call sequence. Maintaining stales within the set target and ensuring zero cash and stock shortages are also key performance indicators.
