About the Senior Marine Pilot Role

Smit Lamnalco, a part of the Boskalis group, is seeking a Senior Marine Pilot for its operations in Jazan, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves providing essential marine support services to clients, ensuring safe and efficient operations in challenging environments. The role requires a dedicated professional committed to teamwork and operational excellence.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Senior Marine Pilot will be responsible for safe, efficient, and professional pilotage services for vessels calling at JCPDI Port, Saudi Aramco facilities, and Single Point Mooring (SPM) locations. All operations must adhere to applicable regulations, Harbour Master Instructions, international best practices, and company safety standards. Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting pilotage operations for vessels arriving, departing, shifting, berthing, and unberthing within port limits and offshore SPM locations.
• Providing professional navigational advice to vessel Masters and bridge teams.
• Assessing environmental conditions and navigational hazards to inform pilotage decisions.
• Developing and communicating pilotage and berthing plans with relevant stakeholders.
• Directing tug usage and mooring arrangements during vessel movements.
• Maintaining effective communication and coordination with VTS, port authorities, and vessel bridge teams.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and company procedures.
• Maintaining accurate pilotage records and documentation.
• Participating in incident investigations, safety meetings, and operational reviews.
• Contributing to the mentoring of junior pilots and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participating in a 24/7 operational roster as required.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role should possess the following qualifications and experience:

• Master Mariner Class 1 (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency.
• Valid medical fitness certification.
• Completion of IMO Resolution ** Pilot Training or an equivalent recognized program.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience as a Marine Pilot, encompassing harbour, tanker, offshore, and SPM operations. Experience within major commercial ports, industrial ports, or oil and gas terminals is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ship handling, tug operations, bridge resource management, pilotage best practices, and modern navigation systems (ECDIS, radar, pilotage equipment).
• Previous experience in the Middle East or Saudi Arabia is advantageous.
• Exposure to VTS operations, port management systems, container terminal operations, and bulk cargo operations is beneficial.
• Proficiency in English is essential; knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
• Training or certification in Bridge Resource Management (BRM) and Human Factors.
