About the Role

Bupa Arabia is seeking a Manager - AI Engineering to design, build, and operationalize AI and machine learning solutions across its Data Office and various business functions. This full-time role, based in Jeddah, is a cross-functional and hands-on engineering position. The Manager will work on critical areas such as Fraud, Waste & Abuse (FWA) detection, claims intelligence, member analytics, and clinical scoring, primarily deploying production AI solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with Vertex AI.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development, training, evaluation, and deployment of production-grade AI/ML models on GCP Vertex AI, encompassing supervised, unsupervised, and generative AI approaches.
• Deploy priority models to GCP production inference endpoints, including FWA Service Overutilization, FWA Duplicated Claims, FWA Provider Network Collusion, Document OCR Extraction, Document Classification, and Service Code Mapping.
• Collaborate with actuarial, clinical, and operational teams to translate business problems into reliable AI solutions, ensuring all models reach production with automated retraining, monitoring, and alerting.
• Deliver AI solutions for claims intelligence, such as duplicate claims detection, service code mapping accuracy, and provider network anomaly detection, with explainable outputs for claims adjusters.
• Build pre-authorization scoring models integrated with operational workflows, providing real-time risk scores to clinical teams within specified SLAs.
• Deploy and optimize Document OCR Extraction models, build Document Classification pipelines, and evaluate multimodal capabilities for document understanding.
• Lead the evaluation and implementation of Large Language Models (LLMs) for OCR, document classification, FWA detection, and member service intelligence, assessing accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Design and implement responsible AI guardrails for LLM deployments, including input validation, output filtering, hallucination detection, and audit logging.

MLOps and Model Lifecycle Management

• Build and maintain MLOps infrastructure, utilizing Vertex AI Pipelines for training/evaluation, Vertex AI Model Registry for versioning, and Vertex AI Model Monitoring for drift detection.
• Implement CI/CD for model deployment, automating promotion from development to staging to production via pipelines with quality gates.
• Design and operate feature engineering pipelines, building and maintaining the Vertex AI Feature Store from Gold layer BigQuery data, ensuring features are versioned, documented, and reusable.
• Maintain comprehensive model cards for every production model, documenting training data, evaluation metrics, known limitations, drift thresholds, and business use context.

AI Data Quality and Ethical AI

• Ensure all training datasets are sourced exclusively from the Gold layer, preventing models from being trained on uncleaned or ungoverned data.
• Apply Bupa Arabia's data classification standards to all model inputs and outputs, managing PII, PHI, and sensitive clinical data in compliance with PDPL and NDMO requirements.
• Conduct bias audits on FWA and clinical models to ensure outputs are explainable to clinical and compliance stakeholders and do not exhibit demographic bias.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 to 7 years of experience in AI/ML engineering or a related domain.
