About the Chief Engineer Role

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is seeking a Chief Engineer to manage all engineering and maintenance operations for its property in Medina, located in the Central Area District. This full-time position requires a professional with 5-10 years of experience to oversee the building's physical plant, ensuring safety, security, and efficient operation of all systems.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the comprehensive management of the engineering department. This includes supervising engineering staff, particularly in the absence of the Director of Engineering, and ensuring the optimal maintenance and operation of all facility equipment, including refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems. A key focus will be on establishing and managing an effective rooms maintenance program and ensuring compliance with all departmental policies and procedures.

Budgetary oversight for controllable expenses to meet or exceed financial goals is essential. The role also involves the selection and procurement of new equipment, supplies, and furnishings. Regular inspection and evaluation of the facilities' physical condition to identify necessary work, such as repairs, renovations, or replacements, will be a core duty. The Chief Engineer will lead the day-to-day operations of the Engineering department.

Operational Oversight and Compliance

Maintaining accurate logs and records is a critical aspect of this role. The Chief Engineer will assist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs. Handling guest issues and complaints effectively, while empowering employees to deliver excellent customer service, is also a significant responsibility. The role requires displaying leadership in guest hospitality by exemplifying outstanding customer service and fostering a positive atmosphere for guest relations.

Establishing priorities for property maintenance needs, ensuring ongoing communication about business objectives, and recognizing exemplary performance are vital. The Chief Engineer will foster open, collaborative relationships with employees, ensuring fair and equitable treatment, and striving to improve service performance through feedback and observation. Supervision of employees' ability to execute departmental and property emergency procedures, and reviewing employee satisfaction results to address concerns, are also key duties. The role also involves ensuring regulatory compliance with facility regulations and safety standards, and adhering to disciplinary procedures and property policies.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED along with 4 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area. Technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing is required. Alternatively, a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major, combined with 2 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area, and technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing, will be considered.
