About the Engineering Role
Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is seeking an Engineering professional for a full-time position in Medina, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah. This role requires a strong understanding of property maintenance and overall responsibility for the upkeep of multiple buildings, grounds, and the physical plant, with a focus on safety, security, and asset protection. The position involves managing budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation initiatives to meet or exceed guest and employee expectations while optimizing financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
The Engineering role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of property engineering operations. This includes:
- Developing and implementing engineering operating strategies aligned with the property's business objectives.
- Managing and controlling engineering budgets, including controllable expenses such as wages, utilities, and supplies.
- Administering service contracts and supervising construction projects to ensure timely completion within budget.
- Overseeing the management of the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
- Ensuring compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations, and maintaining property life safety systems.
- Managing and controlling heat, light, and power consumption.
- Developing and executing long-term preventative maintenance and asset protection plans.
- Preparing financial reports and critiques to monitor performance against budget.
- Leading the emergency response team for all facility issues.
- Ensuring fire crew has a complete understanding of all procedures, equipment, and alarms.
Managing Profitability and Standards
This role plays a crucial part in managing the profitability of the engineering department and ensuring adherence to all relevant standards. Key duties include:
- Reviewing operating statements, budget worksheets, and payroll progress reports to manage areas of operation to budget.
- Monitoring and managing the payroll function and departmental controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
- Participating in the development of capital expenditure goals and managing projects as needed.
- Ensuring building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current.
- Administering property policies fairly and consistently.
- Understanding and educating staff on the impact of departmental operations on overall property financial goals.
Human Resources and Team Leadership
Effective leadership and human resources management are integral to this position. Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring employees are treated fairly and equitably, and that disciplinary procedures are followed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures.
- Utilizing employee feedback and an "open door" policy to address concerns promptly.
- Celebrating team successes through public recognition.
- Resolving guest problems and complaints effectively.
- Maintaining regular communication to share daily activities, set expectations, and communicate business objectives.
- Coaching and supporting the engineering leadership team to effectively manage controllable expenses.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates for this role must meet specific educational and experience requirements:
- A high school diploma or GED is required, along with 6 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area. Technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing is essential.
- Alternatively, a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major is acceptable, combined with 4 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area, and technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing.
- The required experience level for this role is 5-10 years.
Work Location and Type
This is a full-time position located in Medina, within the Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah region.
