About Bechtel and the King Salman International Airport Project

Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company has been appointed to provide Project Management Consultancy (PMC) services for the development of the state-of-the-art King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This ambitious project is designed to accommodate up to 120 million travelers by 2030 and 185 million by 2050, alongside a cargo capacity of up to million tons by 2050. Bechtel's PMC services encompass three new terminals: Terminal 6, the Iconic Terminal, and a Private Aviation Terminal with hangars for VIP and business jet passengers.

The Area Field Engineer Role

Bechtel is seeking an Area Field Engineer for a full-time position in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In this role, the Area 3 Field Engineer will report to the Lead Field Engineer and be responsible for managing a team of Field Engineers. The position provides essential field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and the coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. The primary objective is to ensure that all field engineering activities are conducted safely, are complete, and conform to established quality standards and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide discipline-based technical oversight and ensure contractor compliance with drawings, specifications, standards, schedules, ES&H plans, quality requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate effectively across various disciplines and with Engineering teams to deliver timely and accurate information to Construction teams.
  • Monitor contractor performance within the discipline, covering project status, schedule adherence, cost control, and change management.
  • Work across multiple disciplines as project needs dictate.
  • Lead site-based technical coordination with contractors, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct reviews to ensure continuous availability of construction work fronts by assessing look-ahead schedules, commodity charts, resource plans, engineering deliverables, material delivery schedules, and contractor submittals.
  • Ensure all required permits and licenses are in place before site activities commence and verify ongoing compliance.
  • Manage a team of Field Engineers responsible for reviewing and approving contractor submittals, technical queries, field change documents, drawings, and as-built documentation.
  • Verify that all materials and equipment delivered to the site comply with applicable international standards and technical specifications.
  • Ensure project closeout activities are completed systematically and comprehensively.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with functional departments and coordinate all jobsite contractual activities.
  • Offer technical guidance and advice to Construction Engineers and contractors, and monitor their performance.
  • Coordinate and monitor interfaces with other contractors and lead interface review meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent).
  • 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal relationship skills across various organizational levels.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively influence outcomes and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Must be a self-starter and highly motivated to succeed.
  • Proven skill in identifying, analyzing, and solving problems.
  • Previous, related working experience in the Middle East is highly preferred.
