Collections Conservation Officer

About the Role

Asaan | آسان is seeking a Collections Conservation Officer to undertake conservation and related work on the organization's collections. This full-time role is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and requires 2-5 years of experience. The Collections Conservation Officer will ensure that collections are conserved and presented in a manner that meets the needs of various stakeholders, including researchers, donors, and the public.

Role Overview

The Collections Conservation Officer is responsible for implementing both preventive and remedial conservation services. This includes ensuring that these processes and the collection conditions are documented to agreed standards. The role provides essential support for all areas of the organization’s conservation activities, with a focus on health and safety, and the maintenance and safe operation of all laboratories, analytical, and associated equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain laboratory and all associated equipment and services.
• Manage all documentation related to the safe operation of the laboratory.
• Maintain and manage the environmental monitoring platform.
• Provide technical support for conservation services and undertake conservation work as directed by line management.
• Maintain all documentation related to technical work programs.
• Support the mounting and display of collection items.
• Support the Collections Care and other Departments in line with agreed work programs and deliverables.
• Support research and scholarship related to the collections, including publishing and presenting research findings.
• Provide support to the department on public engagement and education activities.
• Manage the internal budget for the Laboratory facility and assist in developing the annual equipment and materials budget.
• Provide reports on lab expenditure to the Departmental Manager.
• Manage all relevant health and safety documents in line with local and regional legislation, and provide reports at the request of the Departmental Director.
• Maintain the Risk Register for the Laboratory.
• Provide support for risk management and disaster recovery projects relating to the collections.

Qualifications and Experience

• 2-5 years of experience in collections conservation or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake conservation work and technical support.
• Experience with health and safety protocols and laboratory management.
• Proficiency in documenting conservation processes and collection conditions.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, within a dedicated team focused on preserving and presenting valuable collections. The role involves working in laboratory settings and collaborating with various departments and stakeholders.
