About Mace and the Commercial Manager Role

Mace is a global consultancy and construction company that integrates construction expertise with consultancy services to deliver projects and unlock potential. We are seeking a Commercial Manager to join our team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position focused on contributing to a significant development within the region.

Project Context

This role is part of one of the largest programmes currently underway in Saudi Arabia. The project involves a major mixed-use development, encompassing sports facilities, entertainment venues, arts institutions, and all necessary associated infrastructure. Mace operates as one of the key delivery partners, requiring experienced professionals to lead integrated teams across all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation and execution of contract documents, warranties, bonds, and licenses, providing contract administration advice throughout project delivery.
  • Measure, value, and agree completed work and contract variations, ensuring compliance with contract terms and accurate financial management.
  • Maintain effective cost control procedures, oversee contract financial reporting, and present monthly post-contract cost reports to clients.
  • Identify and assess cost impacts arising from design changes, contract awards, construction activities, client instructions, and project developments.
  • Evaluate and negotiate contractor and subcontractor claims related to delays, variations, and additional costs, providing commercial recommendations.
  • Advise on practical completion, defects rectification, final completion certification, and negotiate and agree final accounts.
  • Lead, manage, and develop Cost Consultants, Managers, and professional teams through coaching, performance management, continuous improvement, and transformational change initiatives.
  • Build and maintain key stakeholder relationships, influence senior decision-makers, and support net zero carbon objectives through proactive management of carbon emissions and reduction opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • A degree in quantity surveying or cost management, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Professional membership or active progression towards one, such as MRICS/RICS, or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in business development.
  • Developed commercial and financial acumen.
  • Knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law, and contractual frameworks relevant to construction.
  • Experience leading parts of projects within large, diverse teams.
  • Developing experience in managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
