Construction Engineer

About the Role

SNC-Lavalin Fayez Engineering is seeking an experienced Construction Engineer to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves supporting the delivery of a large-scale development project, focusing on supervising and coordinating construction activities. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, approved schedules, and health and safety requirements.

Role Context and Objectives

The Construction Engineer will work closely with the Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams. Key responsibilities include providing technical oversight, monitoring site execution, verifying progress, and facilitating the successful completion of complex building and hospitality developments. The role emphasizes maintaining high standards of quality and adherence to project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements, and applicable standards.
• Coordinate daily site activities among contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
• Review construction methodologies, work procedures, method statements, and technical submissions.
• Monitor project progress and ensure works are executed in accordance with approved schedules and milestones.
• Assist in identifying construction risks, delays, and technical issues, and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Conduct regular site inspections and ensure construction quality is maintained throughout project execution.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, architectural, MEP, and specialist disciplines for integrated project delivery.
• Verify quantities and completed works to support progress reporting and payment certification.
• Monitor Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) compliance and report unsafe conditions or practices.
• Maintain accurate project records, inspection reports, and technical documentation.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 10+ years of overall professional experience in construction and site supervision.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Construction Engineer on major building projects.
• Proven experience in large-scale buildings, convention centers, hotels, resorts, mixed-use developments, commercial complexes, or hospitality projects.
• Experience within Site Supervision Consultancy, PMC, or Engineering Consultancy environments is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of international building codes, construction standards, and engineering best practices.
• Familiarity with QA/QC procedures, inspection requirements, and testing protocols.
• Working knowledge of construction contracts, including FIDIC principles, is desirable.
• Experience working on projects in Saudi Arabia or the GCC region is highly preferred.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and project execution processes.
• Experience reviewing shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, and technical reports.
• Strong problem-solving and technical coordination skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering software applications.
• Excellent communication, report-writing, and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluency in English is required; Arabic language skills are an advantage.
• Membership in a recognized professional engineering institution is an advantage.
