About the Cost Accountant Role

Americana Restaurants is seeking a Cost Accountant to join its team in Riyadh. This full-time position is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and improving the organization's cost accounting system to ensure accurate measurement of costs for products, services, and operations. The role provides essential cost information to management to support decision-making in areas such as pricing, budgeting, profitability analysis, and financial control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately capture and allocate direct materials, direct labor, and overhead costs to appropriate cost centers and products.
  • Develop standard costs and analyze variances between standard and actual costs, providing clear explanations and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Ensure correct valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods through accurate periodic stock counts and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate, timely periodic cost reports to meet management's decision-making needs.
  • Contribute to budget preparation and monitor actual spending against budget, identifying deviations early.
  • Conduct reliable analysis of product, department, and cost-center profitability to support pricing and margin decisions.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements across operations.
  • Ensure full adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), internal policies, and cost-control procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with production, procurement, and warehouse teams to secure accurate and timely cost data.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as CMA, CPA, or SOCPA are preferred. A minimum of 2–5 years of relevant experience in cost accounting is required, preferably within a manufacturing, retail, or multi-unit operating environment. Hands-on experience with ERP systems (*, SAP or Oracle) and standard costing methodologies is essential.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge: Solid understanding of cost accounting principles, methods, and techniques (standard costing, job/process costing, activity-based costing, variance analysis). Working knowledge of IFRS, budgeting, forecasting, and financial control processes. Familiarity with ERP and cost management modules, inventory valuation methods (FIFO, weighted average), and relevant local regulatory requirements.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and numerical skills with high accuracy and attention to detail. Advanced proficiency in Excel and reporting tools. Proficiency in ERP systems (*, SAP, Oracle). Ability to interpret financial data and translate it into actionable insights. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Problem-solving abilities and sound judgment. Effective communication and reporting skills in both Arabic and English. Ability to work under pressure and collaborate across departments.

Work Environment and Collaboration

The Cost Accountant will maintain regular working relationships internally with the Finance Team, Financial Planning & Analysis Team, Procurement Department, Production/Operations Team, Warehouse and Inventory Team, Internal Audit function, and Brands/Department General Managers. External collaboration will include vendors, suppliers, and external auditors to ensure accurate cost data and sound cost accounting and control practices. This is a full-time role based in Riyadh.
