About King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre

King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, located in Riyadh, is seeking a dedicated Cytogenetics Technologist. This full-time position is integral to the clinical laboratory, contributing to accurate diagnostic and treatment processes through specialized cytogenetic analysis.

The Role of a Cytogenetics Technologist

The Cytogenetics Technologist performs a diverse range of cytogenetic and chromosomal analyses within the clinical laboratory. The primary objective is to obtain precise data essential for the diagnosis and effective treatment of various diseases, ensuring high standards of laboratory practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and fix microscopic slides from various specimens, including scrapings and exudates, followed by staining and mounting to preserve specimens and enhance cell visibility.
  • Examine chromosomes present in blood, amniotic fluid, and bone marrow utilizing prepared slides and tissue cultures.
  • Employ karyotyping and fluorescent-labelled DNA (FISH technique) to detect gene and chromosome abnormalities.
  • Analyze chromosomes for the purpose of prenatal diagnosis, identification of congenital birth defects, investigation of fertility problems, and diagnosis of hematological disorders.
  • Count chromosome numbers and identify structural abnormalities by viewing culture slides through microscopes, light microscopes, photomicroscopes, or imaging systems.
  • Assist in ordering laboratory supplies and maintaining the supply inventory system, ensuring operations adhere to cost-effective practices within the section.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology is required.
  • For Grade 08: Two (2) years of experience in Cytogenetics with a Bachelor’s degree, OR completion of one (1) year SCDP program in Cytogenetics at KFSH&RC for Saudi Nationals.
  • For Grade 09: Four (4) years as a Cytogenetics Technologist at KFSH&RC, or equivalent related experience. This grade also requires an average annual performance appraisal of at least for the last four (4) years, and fifty (50) hours of cumulative continued medical education (CME).

Professional Registrations and Licenses

  • Current registration from the country of origin and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.
  • Registration as CLSP (Cytogenetics), Technologist (Cytogenetics), AIMLS, AIMS, NZIMLT, Cytogenetics Technologist, or an equivalent license in the country of origin is preferred.

Work Environment

This full-time position is based within the clinical laboratory at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh. The role demands meticulous attention to detail and adherence to established laboratory protocols to ensure accurate and reliable results.
