About the Role

Marriott International is seeking a Director of Finance to function as the strategic financial business leader for a property in Riyadh. This full-time role involves championing, developing, and implementing property-wide strategies to deliver products and services that meet or exceed customer and employee expectations. The Director of Finance provides financial expertise to ensure the successful implementation of brand service strategies and initiatives, while maximizing return on investment.

Strategic Planning and Decision Making

The role requires engaging in strategic financial planning and decision-making processes. This includes developing methods to improve profit, analyzing financial data and market trends, and creating comprehensive annual budget plans. The Director will also provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.

  • Develop means to improve profit, including estimating cost and benefit and exploring new business opportunities.
  • Analyze information, forecast sales against expenses, and create annual budget plans.
  • Compile, analyze, and monitor actual sales against projected sales.
  • Analyze differences between actual budget wages and forecasted wages for efficient budget planning.
  • Identify underlying principles and facts by breaking down information or data.
  • Create the annual operating budget for the property.
  • Implement a system of appropriate controls to manage business risks and safeguard assets.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan aligned with company and brand strategy.
  • Produce accurate forecasts to enable operational adjustments.

Leadership and Stakeholder Management

This position involves leading finance teams and effectively managing relationships with key stakeholders. The Director will utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence decision-making, ensure clear accountability, and address the needs of owners, corporate teams, and guests.

  • Lead, influence, and encourage others, advocating for sound financial and business decisions.
  • Communicate strategic goals and owner priorities clearly to subordinates.
  • Oversee internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals with direct reports.
  • Attend meetings and communicate with owners, understanding their priorities and strategic focus.
  • Advise the General Manager and executive committee on operating and financial issues.
  • Manage property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand standards and owner requirements.

Financial Management and Compliance

The Director of Finance is responsible for developing and maintaining financial goals, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and upholding compliance with established policies and procedures. This includes monitoring taxes, managing projects, and ensuring the integrity of financial documentation.

  • Ensure accurate documentation of Profits and Losses.
  • Monitor all applicable taxes, ensuring they are current, collected, and/or accrued.
  • Submit reports in a timely manner, meeting delivery deadlines.
  • Develop and support the achievement of performance, budget, and team goals.
  • Improve profit growth in operating departments.
  • Generate and provide accurate and timely financial reports and presentations.
  • Reconcile balance sheets to ensure account balances are supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with management contracts, reporting requirements, and standard operating procedures.

Human Resources Activities

The role also encompasses managing and conducting various human resource activities within the finance department. This ensures that team members are well-trained, policies are administered fairly, and development plans are in place to foster growth.

  • Ensure team members are cross-trained to support successful daily operations.
  • Administer property policies fairly and consistently.
  • Ensure new hires participate in the department’s orientation and receive appropriate training.
  • Create development plans for team members based on individual strengths, needs, and career aspirations.
  • Conduct performance review processes for employees.
  • Participate in hiring activities as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this position should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience. The role requires a strong understanding of financial principles, strategic planning, and leadership capabilities within a dynamic business environment.
