About the Role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking an experienced Drainage Engineer to join our Construction Supervision team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position supports the delivery of a major roads and highways infrastructure project. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of drainage infrastructure works, ensuring compliance with approved designs, technical specifications, applicable standards, and project quality requirements. The role requires 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Construction Supervision and Inspection

  • Supervise all drainage-related construction activities to ensure works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with project quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Review and verify construction methodologies, work procedures, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and method statements.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits of drainage works, including stormwater networks, reinforced concrete drainage structures, box culverts, pipe culverts, open channels, catch pits, manholes, headwalls, outfalls, and retention/detention facilities.
  • Ensure proper installation, alignment, levels, and workmanship of drainage infrastructure.

Technical Oversight and Quality Assurance

  • Review drainage shop drawings and contractor submissions, verifying compliance with approved designs, local authority requirements, and international engineering standards.
  • Evaluate Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, material approvals, and engineering proposals submitted by contractors.
  • Identify construction issues and provide practical engineering solutions to maintain project progress.
  • Coordinate with design teams where design clarifications or modifications are required.
  • Ensure the implementation of quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Witness inspections, testing, and commissioning activities associated with drainage systems.
  • Review material testing reports and verify compliance with specifications.
  • Ensure all drainage works are completed to required quality standards prior to acceptance, and review as-built records and project documentation.

Stakeholder Coordination and Project Reporting

  • Coordinate closely with Resident Engineers, Civil Engineers, Highway Engineers, Utility Engineers, Surveyors, and HSE teams.
  • Interface with contractors, subcontractors, local authorities, utility providers, and client representatives.
  • Participate in technical meetings, progress meetings, and site coordination workshops.
  • Support the resolution of construction and interface issues affecting project delivery.
  • Monitor the progress of drainage construction activities against project schedules.
  • Identify risks, delays, and potential claims related to drainage works.
  • Prepare technical reports, inspection reports, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), snagging lists, and progress updates.
  • Assist senior project leadership in tracking construction performance and project milestones.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in highway drainage systems, stormwater management infrastructure, culverts, channels, detention systems, utility interfaces, and associated civil works within large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineering registration or membership with a recognized engineering institution is preferred.
  • Additional qualifications in water engineering, stormwater management, or infrastructure design are advantageous.
  • Previous Middle East experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience working on projects for major government authorities and transportation agencies is advantageous.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Experience reviewing contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and method statements.
  • Strong understanding of quality control and construction supervision procedures.

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, within a construction supervision team dedicated to a significant infrastructure project. Salary details for this role will be discussed during the interview process.
