About the Role

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAAUH) in Riyadh is seeking an ICU Assistant Consultant to join its medical team. This full-time position involves providing comprehensive medical care for patients within the scope of the specialty and granted privileges. The role also contributes significantly to the hospital's administrative, educational, and research initiatives.

Role Purpose and Expectations

The ICU Assistant Consultant is expected to have a practical understanding of KAAUH's Mission, Vision, Values, Bylaws, Code of Ethics, Code of Professional Conduct, and all relevant Policies and Procedures. A core responsibility includes practicing KAAUH values such as Patient-Driven care, High Reliability, Teamwork, Professional Ethics, Learning and Sharing, and Performance-Driven outcomes. The role also involves providing essential patient and family education related to health learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

Assistant Consultants contribute across three primary performance areas:

• Clinical Duties: Assist Consultants in patient care at their level, in accordance with the delineated scope of services and privileges. This includes consultation services, follow-up care, performing procedures, and sharing on-call duties. Patient care is delivered across various settings such as outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, emergency rooms, operation rooms, day units, and intensive care units. Practice is based on up-to-date best practices and scientific evidence under consultant supervision, ensuring compliance with quality improvement initiatives and accreditation requirements.
• Administrative Contributions: Undertake administrative duties as required, particularly in areas such as developing Clinical Management Guidelines, Clinical Pathways, and Evidence-Based Best Practices. This also includes participation in Quality Assurance and Improvement activities like Audits, Peer Reviews, and Morbidity & Mortality rounds. Assistant Consultants may also fulfill other administrative tasks for department development, including procurement, staff recruitment, policy development, and committee membership.
• Education & Research Engagement: Participate in general undergraduate and post-graduate teaching activities and provide regular teaching to team members. Engage in departmental educational activities such as Grand Rounds and Journal Clubs. Maintain CME recertification requirements and ensure minimal knowledge for conducting scientific research. Participate in research activities and work towards scientific publications.

Patient Care and Professional Conduct

The Assistant Consultant is responsible for empowering patients and their families to become active partners in their health and wellness, contributing to an excellent patient experience. This includes expressing stewardship through a high sense of accountability, appropriate utilization of resources, and focusing on efficient patient care processes. Supervision of residents and providing feedback on their performance evaluations are also key aspects of the role.

General Responsibilities

All Assistant Consultants are expected to respect patients and their families to promote a patient-centered care culture. Active participation in and support of quality improvement and patient safety activities, both individually and as part of a team, is required. The role also encompasses performing other related duties as assigned.
