Role Purpose and Reporting Structure

The Interior Design Engineer works under the guidance of the Senior Interior Design Architect and reports to the Senior Design/Technical Manager. Key contributions include shop drawing reviews, material approvals, site inspections, and multidisciplinary coordination to ensure interior works align with approved drawings, specifications, and design intent. The role also involves active participation in basic drafting, detailing, and preparing sketches or redline drawings to provide timely and practical solutions.

  • Review interior works (finishes, partitions, ceilings, joinery, FF&E interfaces) for compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Identify site issues, detailing conflicts, or non-conformances and report them to the Senior Interior Design Architect.
  • Coordinate interior works with architectural, structural, MEPF, façade, and specialist contractors to prevent clashes.
  • Support snagging, inspections, and quality checks of interior finishes and fit-out works.
  • Prepare and update sketches, mark-ups, and simple interior drawings/details to support site execution.
  • Assist in producing red line drawings and as-built markups based on site conditions.
  • Provide hands-on drafting support (AutoCAD/Revit) when necessary to resolve site issues efficiently.
  • Review interior shop drawings, material submittals, finishes, samples, and method statements under supervision.
  • Assist in preparing responses to RFIs, Technical Queries (TQs), and site clarifications related to interior works.
  • Coordinate with site engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers on interior and fit-out matters.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience in design and build projects with interior design and fit-out scope.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary coordination across design and construction phases.
  • Proficiency in interior environments requiring coordination of finishes, FF&E, and detailed fit-out works.
  • Ability to contribute to basic drafting, detailing, and preparation of sketches or redline drawings.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD/Revit for drafting support.

Coordination and Communication

The role involves interfacing with other disciplines, including Architectural, Structural, and MEPF, for coordinated project delivery. The Interior Design Engineer will attend coordination meetings, provide updates to senior team members, and ensure proper use of document control systems and project workflows. The position also supports the investigation and close-out of NCRs, observations, and quality issues, maintaining records of technical correspondence and site decisions.

Professional Development

This role offers opportunities to develop knowledge of interior detailing, materials, and fit-out construction practices. The incumbent will support lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives, seek guidance from senior engineers, and contribute to knowledge sharing, promoting best practices in interior construction quality and execution.
