About Albawani and the Role

Albawani (البواني) is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is critical for supporting the delivery of mechanical works on design and build engineering projects within the construction industry. The role involves assisting in the review, coordination, and implementation of design and construction activities directly on site, ensuring adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.

Site Execution and Technical Support

Reporting to the Design Manager and working under the guidance of the Senior Mechanical Engineer, the Junior Mechanical Engineer provides essential day-to-day mechanical engineering support. This primarily site-focused role is responsible for addressing construction queries, RFIs, and technical clarifications. Key activities include:

  • Reviewing mechanical works, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, for compliance with approved designs.
  • Identifying and reporting site issues, discrepancies, or non-conformances to the Senior Mechanical Engineer.
  • Supporting inspections, testing, and commissioning activities for mechanical systems.
  • Preparing and updating sketches, mark-ups, and simple mechanical drawings/details using CAD tools to facilitate site execution.
  • Assisting in producing redline drawings and as-built markups based on actual site conditions.
  • Providing hands-on drafting support (AutoCAD/Revit/BIM tools) to resolve site issues efficiently, ensuring clarity and coordination of all issued drawings.

Technical Documentation and Quality Assurance

This role supports the management of critical project documentation and quality processes. Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing mechanical shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements under supervision, ensuring compliance with design intent and project standards.
  • Assisting in preparing technical comments and tracking submittal status.
  • Verifying the proper implementation of approved shop drawings and materials on site.
  • Supporting the preparation and validation of mechanical as-built drawings and documentation.
  • Assisting in preparing responses to RFIs, Technical Queries (TQs), and site clarifications.
  • Supporting the investigation and close-out of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), observations, and quality issues.
  • Maintaining records of technical correspondence and site decisions.

Interdisciplinary Coordination and Communication

Effective coordination is central to this position, involving interaction with various stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery. Key aspects include:

  • Coordinating mechanical activities with structural, architectural, electrical, and fit-out works to prevent clashes and execution conflicts.
  • Interfacing with site engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers on mechanical matters.
  • Attending coordination meetings and providing updates to senior team members.
  • Ensuring proper use of document control systems and project workflows.
  • Coordinating with the Senior Mechanical Engineer to resolve technical and coordination issues.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role should possess a solid foundation in mechanical engineering within the construction sector. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Between 5 to 10 years of experience in design and build engineering projects within the construction industry.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary coordination across design and site delivery stages.
  • Proficiency in mechanical systems implementation, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Experience in reviewing drawings, submittals, and supporting site execution.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary coordination and construction workflows.

Continuous Improvement and Professional Growth

Albawani supports the continuous development of its engineers. The Junior Mechanical Engineer is expected to develop knowledge of mechanical systems, installation practices, and coordination processes, seek guidance from senior engineers, and contribute to team knowledge sharing. This role promotes best practices in mechanical construction quality and execution, supporting lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
