Job Description

About the Role

National Medical Care is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a full-time position responsible for performing routine analysis within the Clinical Laboratory and Blood Bank department. The specialist will work under the supervision of Senior Medical Technician staff and may rotate through various laboratory sections to maintain familiarity with emergency procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure a high quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding for all patients at Riyadh care Hospitals and Clinics.
  • Perform duties on the laboratory on-call/shift roster for weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Receive or obtain specimens under aseptic conditions for laboratory testing.
  • Prepare specimens for testing and assess the integrity of clinical specimens according to policies prior to testing.
  • Create daily worksheets activities based on diagnostic applications.
  • Perform routine and moderately complex testing and analyses in accordance with SOPs and QC assessment.
  • Prepare common use reagents and initiate daily calibration of equipment for routine activities.
  • Conduct regular assessment of common use equipment by measuring indicators as per laboratory procedures.
  • Evaluate new procedures or methods under the direct supervision of the department's Senior Technician.
  • Perform daily calibration and maintenance of equipment, maintaining documentation of all activities.
  • Follow approved procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with standards of practice.
  • Maintain accurate records of QC and patient results.
  • Identify and report technical or managerial deficiencies to the Senior Technician/Chief Technician.
  • Participate in the problem-solving process for laboratory troubleshooting.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of common reagents and products for laboratory activities.
  • Adhere to the quality system approach for laboratory activities.
  • Validate and accept laboratory results under supervision prior to release through the Laboratory Information System.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new technicians.
  • Educate patients/families as per their needs and implement the full role regarding patient/family education processes, including documentation in patient medical records.
  • Ensure the protection of patients’ health information.

Work Schedule

The working time for this role may include night shifts and rotating weekends and holidays, as organized by the department.

Experience Required

Candidates should have 2-5 years of relevant experience in a laboratory setting.

Patient and Family Education

The Laboratory Specialist is expected to be knowledgeable about their essential role in patient and family education, ensuring that information is provided as needed and documented appropriately.
