Maintenance Engineer / Shift Engineer

About the Role

Accor is seeking a Maintenance Engineer / Shift Engineer to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves managing operational maintenance and systems, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring safety and compliance within the hotel environment. The position requires 2-5 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, inspect, maintain, and repair building services and equipment, including HVAC systems, chillers/cooling towers, boilers, generators, domestic water systems, pumps, lifts, lighting, kitchen equipment, pool & spa systems, and plumbing.
• Execute planned preventive maintenance (PPM) to ensure efficient, consistent, and safe system operation.
• Respond promptly to engineering and guest service requests and breakdowns, minimizing downtime and coordinating urgent repairs.
• Log all activities, complete shift hand-over reports, and maintain maintenance logbooks and checklists.
• Monitor energy consumption and support the implementation of energy-saving and sustainability initiatives.

Coordination and Communication

• Act as the on-duty engineering representative during the shift, coordinating with departments such as Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B, Security, and Maintenance to support guest operations and resolve issues efficiently.
• Report major equipment failures, safety hazards, or operational risks to the Senior/Chief Engineer.
• Assist in training and guiding junior engineers/technicians as needed during the shift.

Safety, Compliance, and Standards

• Ensure all systems and maintenance practices comply with local regulations (fire, health & safety, mechanical/electrical codes) and the hotel’s operational standards.
• Conduct regular rounds of guest floors, plant rooms, public areas, and back-of-house to verify safe and appropriate conditions.
• Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring proper storage and usage.
• Ensure proper hand-over to the next shift, documenting all outstanding tasks, pending work, and critical issues.

Working Conditions

This role operates on a shift basis (morning/afternoon/night), including weekends and public holidays, and requires availability for emergency call-outs within the shift. Work involves various areas such as plant rooms, rooftops, service corridors, guest areas, and outdoor equipment areas. Physical activity, climbing ladders, working at heights, and exposure to heat/humidity environments typical of Riyadh may be required. The hotel setting demands awareness of guest presence and maintaining quiet and safe operations for guest comfort.
