About BAE Systems Saudi Arabia

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia serves as the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under Government-to-Government arrangements, providing essential equipment, support, and training to Saudi Arabia. This critical partnership includes the maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and the training of RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel. We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our team in Riyadh.

The Role of Maintenance Support Specialist

The Maintenance Support Specialist provides professional advice and assistance to the Typhoon Weapon System Support Manager (TyWSSM) on all Typhoon Maintenance Support topics. This full-time role involves offering independent critiques on supplier proposals and deliverables, monitoring and reporting daily on service performance across multi-disciplinary logistics delivery streams, and proactively identifying root causes of issues. The specialist will work with logistics services to implement changes that rectify issues and maximise fleet-wide availability. The position offers a competitive salary and operates under the overall line management of the RSAF TyWSSM and the governance of the RSAF Directorate of Aircraft Maintenance (DoAM).

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitoring and reporting Depth performance, asset availability, and calibration (METCAL).
  • Monitoring and reporting on Munitions & Role Equipment availability.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the serviceability of all RSAF Aircraft Ground Equipment and Role Equipment to support operational requirements and associated Readiness measures.
  • Providing independent assessment to TyWSSM on PC’s In-Kingdom Industrial Participation (IKIP) Supplier activities, acting as the interface between RSAF, PC, and IKIP suppliers.
  • Offering advice and assistance to other RSAF Directorates and DoAM sections on broader engineering issues.
  • Accompanying RSAF officers to briefings and meetings as required.
  • Performing other engineering and administrative tasks as directed by the TyWSSM or their deputy.
  • Initiating and progressing Weapon / Role Equipment related Defect Investigations / safety related weapons investigations, liaising with the TSC, reviewing reports, and expediting consequential maintenance or modification.

  • Monitoring and reviewing Depth modifications and obsolescence programmes to ensure effective fleet management through-life, while minimizing life-cycle costs.

Core Responsibilities

  • Providing timely and effective advice, support, and assistance pertaining to all RSAF Typhoon aircraft to the TyWSSM and Director of Aircraft Maintenance.
  • Managing and controlling Safety & Quality Management and Assurance systems in conjunction with the TSC.
  • Supporting the day-to-day management of the RSAF’s Engineering Authority and Design Organisation Change process.
  • Coordinating and interfacing with the TSC, PC, and MODSAP on RFL supportability, and with HQ RSAF Heads of Specialisation on related policy issues.
  • Managing the configured baseline of the “in-service” standard of the Typhoon Weapons System and associated support capabilities in accordance with the Regulatory Framework for Logistics (RFL).
  • Monitoring and reporting on the efforts of the Typhoon Weapon System Section to maintain the operational capability of the RSAF Typhoon fleet.
  • Assisting in the development and refinement of future support concepts and policies with Typhoon Weapon System Section specialists.
  • Preparing maintenance support input for requirements and programme management documentation, including statements of requests and work for future Typhoon support proposals.
  • Acting as the Typhoon RTS point of contact within the DoAM, monitoring and distributing the RTS to all RSAF stakeholders.
  • Acting as office coordinator for the production of reports and briefs on research and development topics, new programmes, safety, and reliability subjects.

Candidate Requirements

Candidates for this role must possess over 10 years of proven aircraft engineering/maintenance and logistics experience, including a management/senior supervisory position responsible for leadership, management, and application of safety systems in an aircraft operational environment. The incumbent should have completed a recognised course of training or apprenticeship in Aeronautical Engineering or related technology and come from a Typhoon user Air Force background with practical, hands-on experience at a senior management level.

  • Essential Qualifications:
    • Current 1st or 2nd Line Typhoon experience at Senior Supervisor level or above within a Typhoon operational environment.
    • Working knowledge of Safety & Quality Management Systems.
    • Comprehensive appreciation of military airworthiness maintenance regulations.
    • Detailed knowledge of military maintenance regulatory procedures.
    • Competence in Maintenance Error Investigation techniques.
    • Understanding of the Continuous Improvement (CI) process.
    • Knowledge and experience in Weapons/Munitions.
  • Desirable Qualifications:
    • Current 1st Line Typhoon experience at Senior Supervisor level or above, or experience of working with Military Fast Jet platforms in the Forward Operational Domain or 2nd Line employment within the Typhoon industry.
    • Previous experience working with Industry within an aeronautical environment.
