MEP BIM Lead

About the Role

Buro Happold is seeking an MEP BIM Lead to join its Buildings team in Riyadh. This full-time role involves shaping the digital delivery of complex, high-performance, and sustainable building-services projects. The successful candidate will contribute to a practice focused on sustainability, equity, and social outcomes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As MEP BIM Lead, you will be responsible for leading and embedding effective BIM processes across MEP design delivery within the Riyadh Buildings team. This involves close partnership with project BIM leads, MEP job leaders, engineers, BIM technicians, and external project stakeholders to establish robust project information-management procedures from mobilisation through design, coordination, construction support, and final deliverables.

• Lead the planning, setup, implementation, and ongoing management of MEP BIM delivery on complex building projects.
• Establish and maintain MEP BIM workflows in accordance with project BIM Execution Plans, client requirements, Buro Happold standards, and agreed information-management protocols.
• Support the review of tender and project BIM requirements, including Exchange Information Requirements, Level of Information Need, model-development requirements, delivery milestones, and digital scope.
• Contribute discipline-specific information to the BIM Execution Plan, Task Information Delivery Plan, and coordinated programme of model and drawing deliverables.
• Define clear digital-delivery responsibilities, workflows, approval routes, and quality-control procedures with the Regional BIM Lead and Project BIM Lead.
• Lead the development and implementation of MEP BIM enhancements, templates, standards, content libraries, and automated workflows.
• Support project teams in adopting consistent and efficient modelling, documentation, and coordination practices.
• Set up and maintain discipline Revit models in accordance with Buro Happold project templates, BIM standards, and project-specific requirements.
• Configure model worksets, links, shared coordinates, levels, grids, views, view templates, scope boxes, dependent views, match lines, sheets, and publishing sets.
• Coordinate with the project BIM lead and other disciplines to confirm project north, coordinate systems, model origins, linked-model strategy, and information-sharing requirements.
• Ensure project models are structured to support clear MEP design development, efficient coordination, and high-quality drawing production.
• Establish automated or semi-automated workflows for sheet creation, model setup, views, and repeatable documentation tasks where appropriate.
• Support the setup and effective use of Autodesk Construction Cloud for model sharing, issue management, coordination, and controlled information exchange.
• Work with MEP job leaders and engineers to establish practical service-zone, routing, and coordination strategies from the earliest design stages.
• Lead and monitor the implementation of MEP coordination principles, including spatial allowances, access requirements, maintenance zones, builders-work interfaces, and multidisciplinary design constraints.
• Promote a clash-avoidance, right-first-time approach rather than relying solely on late-stage clash detection.
• Coordinate MEP models with architecture, interiors, structures, landscape, civil, façade, fire, and specialist consultant models.
• Set up and manage Navisworks model reviews, clash-detection tests, and issue-resolution workflows at agreed project intervals.
• Support coordination reviews through Autodesk Construction Cloud Model Coordination and other agreed project platforms.
• Coordinate builders-work openings, penetrations, sleeves, and other interfaces with structural and architectural teams.
• Identify recurring coordination risks, propose practical solutions, and escalate critical issues promptly to the appropriate project leads.
• Carry out routine model-health and information-quality reviews, including compliance with model standards, naming conventions, worksets, view templates, parameters, tagging, model content, and information requirements.
• Ensure MEP models meet the agreed Level of Information Need and are suitable for each relevant project stage and deliverable.
• Review drawing sets, title blocks, sheet registers, scale, annotation, graphic standards, and PDF outputs to maintain a high-quality presentation standard.
• Ensure alignment between model outputs, Task Information Delivery Plan milestones, and agreed project issue schedules.
• Support the preparation and review of MEP Revit models, drawings, schedules, and coordinated deliverables at key project gateways.
• Maintain clear records of BIM issues, audits, actions, risks, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement.
• Provide technical support, training, and guidance to engineers, BIM technicians, and junior team members on Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and MEP BIM best practice.
• Mentor BIM technicians in model setup, modelling quality, documentation, coordination, and efficient Revit workflows.
• Support the recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and, where required, line management of BIM personnel.
• Coordinate with Buro Happold BIM support teams in other regions and with approved external BIM delivery partners where required.
• Communicate BIM requirements clearly and constructively to internal teams, consultants, contractors, and clients.
• Contribute to lessons learned, process improvements, digital innovation, and knowledge sharing across the Riyadh Buildings practice.

Qualifications and Experience

• 5-10 years of experience as an MEP BIM professional.
• Strong technical knowledge of building-services design.
• Proven ability to lead digital delivery on multidisciplinary projects.
• Understanding that BIM is a coordinated information-management process supporting design decisions, project outcomes, and efficient delivery.
