About DSS Sustainable Solutions Switzerland SA

DSS Sustainable Solutions Switzerland SA is a global consultancy that partners with organizations in high-risk and asset-intensive industries. The company focuses on solving operational challenges across safety, operational excellence, and sustainability. With a background rooted in DuPont’s industrial operations, DSS combines expertise, practical problem-solving, and digital innovation to deliver measurable impact for clients.

Role Overview: Off-site Receptors and Escalation

DSS Sustainable Solutions Switzerland SA is developing a proposal for a client in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to support the creation of a National Industrial Hazard Index (IHI). This full-time role seeks an Independent Industrial Hazard & Risk SME to provide expert challenge and validation during technical workshops. The IHI aims to establish a consistent methodology for measuring and classifying the inherent hazard level of factories across Saudi industrial cities, serving as a risk-based decision-making tool.

Key Responsibilities

As an Independent Industrial Hazard & Risk SME, you will:

  • Provide expert challenge and validation during focused technical workshops with the dss+ project team.
  • Review the proposed Industrial Hazard Index through the lens of current industry practice, regulatory experience, and technical evidence.
  • Contribute to ensuring the resulting methodology is credible, practical, transparent, and suitable for application across diverse industrial landscapes.
  • Inform decision-making related to the frequency and depth of factory inspections.
  • Advise on requirements for specialist inspection expertise.
  • Contribute to the development of escalation and intervention protocols.
  • Support the establishment of emergency preparedness priorities.
  • Guide the allocation of regulatory resources.

Areas of Expertise

Depending on your background, you may contribute expertise across one or several of the following areas:

  • Hazardous-material properties and inventories (toxicity, flammability, reactivity, physical state, storage conditions, inventory volumes, concentration, hazard thresholds, and classifications).
  • Industrial process characteristics and operating conditions.
  • Factors influencing the likelihood and potential severity of fires and explosions.
  • Loss-of-containment and material-movement risks.
  • Stored, mechanical, thermal, and electrical energy.
  • Acute and chronic occupational exposure to hazards.
  • Workforce and third-party exposure within industrial hazard footprints.
  • Potential consequences extending beyond factory boundaries.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a recognized specialist with deep practical expertise in industrial hazards, process safety, fire and explosion risk, occupational hygiene, regulatory inspection, emergency preparedness, or a closely related discipline. You should possess independent judgment, strong technical credibility, and the confidence to constructively challenge proposed approaches. The ability to distinguish between theoretically robust methods and those that are practical across varied industrial environments is essential.

Candidates are likely to hold a Bachelor's/Higher Diploma. Experience in industrial regulation or operations within Saudi Arabia, the GCC, or comparable international settings is beneficial but not essential.
