About DSS Sustainable Solutions Switzerland SA

DSS Sustainable Solutions Switzerland SA (dss+) is a global consultancy focused on partnering with organizations in high-risk and asset-intensive industries. The company addresses complex operational challenges across safety, operational excellence, and sustainability, leveraging expertise rooted in DuPont’s industrial operations. dss+ combines deep knowledge, practical problem-solving, and digital innovation to deliver measurable impact for clients.

The Role of Industrial Health and Hygiene Specialist

dss+ is developing a proposal for a client in Saudi Arabia to support the creation of a National Industrial Hazard Index (IHI). This full-time role in Riyadh seeks an Independent Industrial Hazard & Risk SME to provide expert challenge and validation for the proposed methodology. The IHI aims to offer a consistent approach for measuring and classifying the inherent hazard level of factories across Saudi industrial cities, integrating various industrial hazard dimensions into a practical, evidence-based, and auditable framework.

Key Contributions

As an Industrial Health and Hygiene Specialist, you will contribute to ensuring the IHI methodology is credible, practical, transparent, and suitable for diverse industrial applications. Your contributions will include:

  • Providing expert challenge and validation during technical workshops with the dss+ project team.
  • Reviewing the proposed Industrial Hazard Index through the lens of current industry practice, regulatory experience, and technical evidence.
  • Contributing expertise across one or several of the following areas:

    • Hazardous-material properties and inventories (toxicity, flammability, reactivity, physical state, storage, inventory volumes, hazard thresholds).
    • Industrial process characteristics and operating conditions (temperature, pressure, flow, batch/continuous operations, start-up/shut-down/maintenance).
    • Factors influencing fire and explosion likelihood and severity (ignition sources, fuel characteristics, ventilation, confinement, suppression/detection systems).
    • Loss-of-containment and material-movement risks (piping, vessels, tanks, loading/unloading, waste management).
    • Stored, mechanical, thermal, and electrical energy (machinery, pressure systems, boilers, electrical installations).
    • Acute and chronic occupational exposure to hazards (chemicals, dusts, noise, vibration, radiation, biological agents).
    • Workforce and third-party exposure within industrial hazard footprints (emergency response, evacuation, access/egress, proximity to sensitive receptors).
    • Potential consequences extending beyond factory boundaries (public health, environmental damage, economic disruption).

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a recognized specialist with deep practical expertise in industrial hazards, process safety, fire and explosion risk, occupational hygiene, regulatory inspection, emergency preparedness, or a closely related discipline. This role requires independent judgment, strong technical credibility, and the ability to constructively challenge proposed approaches. Candidates should be able to distinguish between theoretically robust methods and those that are practical for varied industrial environments.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor's or Higher Diploma is typically expected.
  • Experience in industrial regulation or operations within Saudi Arabia, the GCC, or comparable international settings is beneficial but not essential.

Application

This opportunity is suitable for senior experts who are active within industry, government, regulatory bodies, research institutions, international risk or safety organizations, or other relevant technical institutions. We are particularly interested in specialists who can contribute practical insights from outside existing dss+ methodologies and frameworks.

Requirements

  • No experience required
