About DSS Sustainable Solutions Switzerland SA

DSS Sustainable Solutions Switzerland SA is a global consultancy focused on partnering with organizations in high-risk and asset-intensive industries. The company addresses complex operational challenges across safety, operational excellence, and sustainability, drawing on a heritage rooted in DuPont’s industrial operations. DSS combines deep expertise, practical problem-solving, and digital innovation to deliver measurable and lasting impact for clients.

The Role of Independent Industrial Hazard & Risk SME

DSS Sustainable Solutions Switzerland SA is developing a proposal for a client in Saudi Arabia to support the creation of a National Industrial Hazard Index (IHI). This full-time role, based in Riyadh, seeks credible and independent industrial hazard and risk specialists to provide external perspectives on the proposed methodology. The IHI aims to establish a consistent framework for measuring and classifying the inherent hazard level of factories across Saudi industrial cities, combining multiple industrial hazard dimensions into an evidence-based and auditable system. This opportunity is suitable for senior experts active in industry, government, regulatory bodies, research institutions, or international risk/safety organizations.

Key Responsibilities

As an Independent Industrial Hazard & Risk SME, you will provide expert challenge and validation during focused technical workshops with the dss+ project team. Your contributions will help ensure the resulting methodology is credible, practical, transparent, and suitable for diverse industrial applications. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing the proposed Industrial Hazard Index through the lens of current industry practice, regulatory experience, and technical evidence.
  • Contributing expertise across areas such as hazardous-material properties, industrial process characteristics, fire and explosion risks, loss-of-containment, stored energy, and occupational exposure.
  • Informing aspects such as the frequency and depth of factory inspections, requirements for specialist inspection expertise, escalation and intervention protocols, emergency preparedness priorities, and the allocation of regulatory resources.

Required Expertise Areas

Candidates should possess deep practical expertise in industrial hazards, process safety, fire and explosion risk, occupational hygiene, regulatory inspection, emergency preparedness, or closely related disciplines. Expertise may cover one or several of the following dimensions:

  • Hazardous-material properties and inventories, including toxicity, flammability, reactivity, physical state, storage conditions, inventory volumes, concentration, and applicable hazard thresholds.
  • Industrial process characteristics and operating conditions.
  • Factors influencing the likelihood and potential severity of fires and explosions.
  • Loss-of-containment and material-movement risks.
  • Stored, mechanical, thermal, and electrical energy.
  • Acute and chronic occupational exposure to hazards.
  • Workforce and third-party exposure within industrial hazard footprints.
  • Potential consequences extending beyond factory boundaries.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a recognized specialist with strong technical credibility and independent judgment. You should be confident in constructively challenging proposed approaches and capable of distinguishing between theoretically robust methods and those practical for varied industrial environments. Experience in industrial regulation or operations within Saudi Arabia, the GCC, or comparable international settings is beneficial but not essential.
