Role Overview: Pharmacy Assistant, Inpatient Emergency Pharmacy

The Pharmacy Assistant in the Inpatient Emergency Pharmacy Unit performs essential functions related to medication management. This full-time role involves the preparation and filling of both sterile and non-sterile medications, including anti-neoplastic agents, strictly adhering to established pharmacy policies, procedures, and accepted standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform professional work in the preparation, filling, compounding, dispensing, and double-checking of sterile and non-sterile medications as applicable to the area of practice.
  • Restock, operate, and troubleshoot pharmacy robotic equipment as applicable according to different pharmacy areas.
  • Maintain control and security of all medications, including controlled and narcotic substances and supplies.
  • Maintain dispensing and recordkeeping as per laws and regulations.
  • Pre-package tablets, capsules, and oral liquid medications utilizing available repackaging machines/robotic equipment, maintaining complete required records and appropriate labeling procedures.
  • Check and monitor medication-related activities/performance of new senior pharmacists, residents, trainees/students with guidance and support from a senior pharmacist as needed.
  • Order and maintain proper and sufficient inventory of drugs and supplies with regular monitoring of medication expiration dates.
  • Prepare expired medications for disposal and complete electronic disposal requests in a timely manner.
  • Distribute medications to nursing units as required.
  • Perform nursing unit/clinic inspection and outdated pharmacy stocks/supplies on a monthly basis as per assignment, maintaining and signing approved forms and records accordingly.
  • Maintain a clean working environment, including hoods and countertops.
  • Participate in and assist with conducting performance/quality improvement projects.
  • Follow all Hospital’s related Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in self and others' education, training, and development, as applicable.

Qualifications and Experience

  • No prior experience is required for this position (0-1 years of experience).

Work Environment

This full-time position is based in Riyadh, within the dynamic Inpatient Emergency Pharmacy Unit. The role requires adherence to hospital policies and active participation in maintaining a safe and efficient pharmacy operation.
